In June 2011, the ROCA ordered 30 of the new Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters along with associated equipment to augment and eventually replace the AH-64D as the main attack helicopter. The first six AH-64Es were delivered to Taiwan on 5 November 2013, though one was later lost on 25 April 2014 after it crashed into a building amidst thick fog, resulting in the first hull loss of the type and prompting the ROCA to re-evaluate its simulation training programme. The final batch of AH-64Es was delivered in October 2014, and the remaining 29 AH-64Es are still in active service to this day.
The Taiwanese AH-64E was introduced in Update 2.51 "Spearhead". As an export model, it is nearly identical to the AH-64E in the American tech tree except for the lack of additional IRCM on the wingtips. However, the Taiwanese AH-64E stands out due to the option to mount four additional ATAS anti-air missiles on the outer pylons, effectively allowing pilots to carry both ATGMs and AAMs without compromising firepower. The AH-64E has the option of using up to sixteen AGM-179 missiles with a range of up to 16 km and either IR or SAL guidance. This allows the AH-64E to comfortably pick off the enemy from safe distances.
