The AH Mk.2 Apache is the designation for the upgrade of the AgustaWestland AH Mk.1 Apache attack helicopter to the export standard of the AH-64E Apache Guardian. The AH Mk.2 programme was conceived in August 2015 to upgrade the 50 existing AH Mk.1s and the order was finalised in 2016. Two batches of AH Mk.1s sent to the US for reconstruction, with 38 and 12 aircraft being sent in 2017 and 2019 respectively. The first two converted examples were delivered on 26 November 2020, and the type was declared ready for service on 25 March 2024, the same day the AH Mk.1 was officially decommissioned.
Introduced in Update 2.51 "Spearhead", the AH Mk.2 Apache is nearly identical to the AH-64E in the American tech tree, albeit lacking additional IRCM on the wingtips. The AH Mk.2 has the option of using up to sixteen AGM-179 missiles with a range of up to 16 km and either IR or SAL guidance, allowing the AH Mk.2 to comfortably pick off the enemy from safe distances. However, despite the lack of additional IRCM pods, the AH Mk.2 can only mount the ATAS anti-air missile on the outer pylons, effectively cutting its anti-tank capabilities in half.
