In the early 1970s, the Hellenic Air Force began searching for a replacement for its F-84F Thunderstreak fighter jets. The A-7 caught their attention thanks to its good combat radius and strike capabilities, as well as its relatively low purchase price and simple maintenance. Between 1975 and 1980, Greece acquired 60 A-7H aircraft. Greek pilots valued the aircraft for its simplicity and flight performance. This led Greece to acquire an additional 62 A-7E aircraft in 1993, shortly after they were retired from U.S. service. The Greek A-7Es never saw combat, and six were lost in non-combat incidents. Greece was the last country to retire the A-7E, doing so in 2014.

The Greek A-7E was introduced in Update 2.59 "Sky Odyssey", as part of the Israeli aviation research tree. Like its counterparts in the U.S. and Japanese aviation trees, the Greek A-7E is much more effective in a strike role than as a fighter. Its low engine power and top speed are not significant disadvantages when attacking ground targets. Meanwhile, its wide selection of guided air-to-surface weapons and infrared targeting pod allow it to comfortably engage targets from outside the effective range of enemy air defenses.
