The Hurricane Mk. IV was an attack variant of the single-engine Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft. One significant difference from earlier versions was the change in armament. Instead of three .303 Browning machine guns in each wing, only one was installed. Additionally, the aircraft could carry eight RP-3 rockets, several 500-pound bombs, or two Vickers S aircraft cannons. Additionally, the engine and cockpit armor were reinforced. The Hurricane Mk. IV was mass-produced from 1942 to 1944, and a total of 524 were manufactured and used by the Royal Air Force during World War II. Thirty of these aircraft were delivered to the Soviet Union, but the details of their combat use in the Red Army Air Force are unknown.
The Hurricane Mk.IV was introduced in Update 1.51 "Cold Steel". While the Hurricane demonstrates good maneuverability, even surpassing its predecessor, it is primarily designed to destroy enemy ground or naval vehicles with bombs, rockets, or 40 mm cannons. The Hurricane Mk.IV does not perform well in aerial combat due to its low climb rate and tendency to lose energy quickly in dogfights. Additionally, its armament is not particularly suited for air combat. The 7.7 mm machine guns are not powerful enough, and the 40 mm cannons have strong recoil and a small ammunition capacity of only 15 shells per barrel.
