The M48A2 C is an updated version of the American M48 tank. The M48A2 was equipped with an AVI-1790-8 gasoline engine with an output of 825 horsepower, and its fuel tank capacity was increased to 1,440 liters, extending its range to 400 kilometers. The tank also received an Allison CD-850-5 transmission. Another distinctive feature was the installation of three support rollers instead of five. Additionally, M48A2 Cs were equipped with an M17C rangefinder, and the additional track tension roller was removed. Many M48A2 C tanks were in service with the Bundeswehr. Along with Leopard tanks, they formed the backbone of the German army's tank fleet in the early 1970s. The Patton tanks of the Bundeswehr could be identified externally by a large, rectangular AEG-Telefunken IR searchlight on the gun mantlet; boxes for crew equipment welded to the rear turret baskets; and two blocks of four 76mm smoke grenade launchers of German design mounted on the turret sides. Another distinguishing feature of the West German M48s were the rearview mirrors installed on the tank hull.
The M48A2 C was introduced in Update 1.91 “Night Vision”. In the game, the Bundeswehr's Patton, like its American predecessor the M48A1, plays the role of a medium tank. Compared to the previous model, however, the vehicle has a new engine and transmission, improving its already decent mobility. It has decent armor and a fairly good 90mm gun with HEATFS and APCBC shells, making it perfect for different playstyles, whether it's going head-on or flanking.
