Description

GarageImage CW-21.jpg

The CW-21 is a rank I Chinese twin-engine fighter with a battle rating of 2.0 (AB/SB) and 2.7 (RB). It was introduced in Update 1.91 "Night Vision". A relatively untested aircraft so far, the CW-21 will be a surprise to pilots stepping into china. the first few Chinese aircraft struggle, but the CW picks up the slack the moment it gets airborne. Sitting on the airfield, you'll notice quickly that its a fairly small monoplane fighter, akin to a P-26. Taking off, the next point you notice is the short take off span, lifting off as soon as at least 145kph has been met. And speaking of speed, the CW will quickly out run and out pace the competition, leading to a lot of your primarily biplane opposition simply being unable to get within firing distance, but where they cant hit you, this bird has talons, and easily uses 2x.50cal M2s plus 4x.30cal M1919s to decimate any plane that comes near. While it can give a hit, you'd be more than surprised to know that the CW can take a hit. The wings, strong as they are, are the most durable flight construction in the game, able to take round after round, hit after hit from the vast multitude of armaments at its low BR, ranging from the weak Japanese 7.7mm, to the heavy impacting 20mm ShvaK fielded by the Soviets. Not that you'll be getting hit much, as an competent pilot will tell you maneuverability is key, and an agile plane it is. the turn time is easily competitive to most if not all biplanes, except possibly the I-153 that inhabits the first three ranks as a seal clubber. All in all, the CW-21 is a powerhouse, ready to zoom in, shred and ignite the enemy, and shrug off all incoming fire.

Survivability and armour

Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.

Armaments

Offensive armament

The CW-21 is armed with:

  • 2 x 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine guns, nose-mounted (200 rpg = 400 total)
  • 2 x 7.62 mm Browning machine guns, nose-mounted (500 rpg = 1,000 total)

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Respectable firepower for the rank
  • Turn rate is on par with the early Spitfires and even A6Ms
  • .50 calibre API at this rank is very dangerous
  • Mediocre energy retention

Cons:

  • Not very fast
  • Very fragile
  • Climb rate is not the best for the rank

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
