The Akebono (DE-201) is a Japanese escort frigate and one of the first Japanese warships built after World War II. The ship was laid down on December 10, 1954 at the Ishikawajima shipyard in Tokyo; launched on October 15, 1955; and entered service on March 20, 1956. It was the only ship of its class built. Unlike the Ikazuchi-class frigates, which used diesel engines, the Akebono was equipped with steam turbines, allowing it to reach slightly higher speeds. However, these ships had similar artillery and anti-aircraft armament. The Akebono remained in service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force until 1976, when it was decommissioned and scrapped.
The Akebono was introduced in Update 1.101 "Raining Fire". It has versatile, rapid-fire main-caliber guns and plentiful amount of rounds. However, it does not have torpedoes or and has poor survivability, despite its large crew.
