Calculating Turn Time and Turn Radius
To get Turn Time:
- Remove all additional weaponry (torpedoes, depth charges, etc.)
- Enter a full rudder deflection turn (either starboard or port, shouldn't matter) at flank speed (FLK AHEAD)
- Wait for the speed to stabilize (turns should be completed at constant speeds), note the speed here
- Complete several turns (>5; the more, the better), record the times to complete each turn
- Take the average of the times
To get Turn Radius:
- Using the constant turn speed from above, do the following calculation:
r = (v * 1000 / 3600) * t / (2 * pi)
where:
- r : turn radius
- v : speed during the turn
- t : average turn time
