The Z-10ME is an export version of the Chinese Z-10 attack helicopter, first unveiled at the 11th Zhuhai Air Show in 2016. The helicopter is equipped with a number of improvements for export customers compared to the version for the Chinese Air Force. The 2016 model featured more powerful engines (1,600 hp), an increased ammunition load of 350 rounds for the cannon, modified engine air intakes, and upgraded electronics. The 2018 version had its engine exhaust directed upward to reduce its thermal signature and had Kevlar armor panels added to the crew compartment. The 2024 variant has armor panels on the engines, a radar over the main rotor, an IRCM system on the wings, and a MAW system with phased array antennas. In 2022, Pakistan ordered 40 Z-10MEs instead of T-129s; the original purchase fell through due to a U.S. ban on engine supplies. The first batch of Z-10MEs was delivered in 2023.
The Z-10ME was introduced in Update 2.47 "Leviathans". Its anti-tank armament is one of the worst among its peers. AKD-10 missiles are slow, fly in an arc, and require constant laser targeting to hit the target. Conversely, the TY-90 air-to-air missiles are highly maneuverable and resistant to countermeasures, effectively turning the Z-10ME into a flying air defense battery. The radar greatly simplifies the detection of ground and air targets. However, the armor panels have a very small surface area and can easily be penetrated by armor-piercing shells from automatic cannons. They are also completely useless against guided weapons. Fortunately, the MAW warns of approaching missiles, and the IRCM can protect from some of them. The light and maneuverable helicopter can use uneven terrain to increase its survivability.
