In the 1960s, the Soviet Navy started developing a type of border patrol boat based on the Project 205 Osa class of ships. The main changes included replacing the missile armament with torpedoes and installing anti-submarine warfare equipment. Additionally, plans were made to improve the crew's living conditions with larger cabins and an improved air conditioning system. These boats were designated Project 205P Stenka. The first of these ships was launched in 1967, and a total of 137 were built. Over time, the torpedo weapons were removed from the ships. Russia used Project 205P boats as part of its coast guard until 2017.
Among them was the AK-225 Project 205PE boat, which was intended for export to allies of the Soviet Union. It entered service on January 7, 1969, as part of the Black Sea Fleet's 41st Missile Boat Brigade. During testing, sailors expressed dissatisfaction with the weak armament, so a single-gun AK-157 artillery mount was experimentally installed on the AK-225. However, even with the new 57 mm gun, the armament was still insufficient, and the concept of such boats had already evolved. The modified boats did not go into production, and the AK-225 itself was removed from the fleet on June 24, 1991. In 1993, it was scarpped.
The AK-225 was introduced as a reward for the 2025 Sea Defender event. The AK-225's most significant advantage is its powerful 57mm cannon in the bow with an incredible rate of fire. This allows the boat to quickly sink destroyers and smaller ships. However, the crew is small, there is no armor, and the only air defense weapon is a 30 mm autocannon in the stern.
