Erevan was a destroyer leader and the second ship of Project 48, also known as the Kiev class, which was designed for the Soviet Navy. The Project 48 destroyer leaders were designed between 1937 and 1939. The Yerevan was laid down on December 30, 1939, and launched on June 30, 1941. After launching, the ship's hull was first towed to Sevastopol, then to Kerch, and finally to Yeysk. In October, the hull was towed back to Kerch. In early 1942, it was towed to Batumi, where it remained until the end of 1945.
After the war, the launched Project 48 leaders' hulls were towed to Nikolaev to be completed according to the improved Project 48-K design. However, due to complications in developing the new design and ongoing restoration work at the Nikolaev shipyard, completion was postponed and the hulls were mothballed. In 1946, the Erevan's hull was used as a floating barracks during exercises. In early 1947, orders were issued again to complete the ships. In 1948, design specifications for Project 48-K were issued. However, in 1950, the decision was made to abandon completion of the ships. In 1953, the Erevan was assigned to the Caspian Flotilla. In 1954, she was transferred to the Black Sea and reclassified as a target ship. Beginning in March 1957, the Erevan participated in trials of the KSSh anti-ship missile. On August 30, 1957, an inert KSSh missile struck the Erevan, causing a hole and prompting the destroyer to sink. Shortly thereafter, she was raised and scrapped by Glavvtorchermet.
The Erevan was introduced into the game in Update 2.51 "Spearhead" in its project configuration as of Project 48. This destroyer has decent main guns, an average anti-aircraft battery, and a large number of torpedoes. Its dynamic performance is quite good, and its crew is slightly larger than that of most of its opponents. However, her overall survivability and protection are lacking.
