General information

The 2S19M1 “Msta-S” is a Russian self-propelled howitzer manufactured by Uraltransmash. The 2S19M1 is the successor of the 2S3 self-propelled gun, with a greatly improved howitzer and fire control system. Uraltransmash unveiled the 2S19M1 in 2000 and started delivering the first 2S19M1s to the Russian Army in 2007, and the Msta-S series was also successfully offered to the export market. A replacement for the Msta-S series of howitzers has also been produced since 2015 under the name of the 2S35.

The 2S19M1 was introduced in Update “Hornet’s Sting” as a tech tree vehicle in the USSR ground tech tree. With a massive 152 mm autoloaded howitzer, the 2S19M1 can easily annihilate nearly any ground vehicle it faces with its default HE shells or with a versatile HEAT round; it also can fire an APHEBC round with excellent post-penetration damage at lighter targets. The 2S19M1 can also destroy planes and helicopters that stray in front of its 152 mm howitzer with a lethal proximity-fused HE-VT shell. However, the 2S19M1 was not designed to be a frontline combatant and has very poor armor and survivability as a result. Being shot in the turret is nearly always fatal due to the presence of a huge autoloader rack. The 2S19M1 is also vulnerable to bombing or strafing attacks from enemy aircraft. Players should position the 2S19M1 behind cover or at a distance from the battle, where it can maximize the effectiveness of its potent howitzer and avoid taking return fire. Close-quarters combat should also be avoided due to the poor turret traverse and general unwieldiness of the vehicle.
