General information

The Tank Technology Demonstrator (TTD) is an experimental tank developed and produced by Land Systems OMC in South Africa. The Loggim program aimed to create a domestically produced main battle tank and began in South Africa in the 1980s. Reumech Olifant Manufacturing Company (OMC) built the hull, and Lyttleton Engineering Works (LEW) designed the turret and installed the main gun. However, after the South African Border War ended in 1989, the program's budget was reduced. To keep the project alive, the South African Defense Force (SADF) and the Armaments Corporation of South Africa (ARMSCOR) planned to build a demonstrator vehicle.

In 1992, the prototype was completed and named the Tank Technology Demonstrator (TTD). It was estimated that 282 vehicles would be needed to replace the Olifant Mk.1A and Mk.1B tanks. In 1994, however, South Africa held its first free democratic elections, leading to the lifting of sanctions on the import and export of military equipment. This allowed the South African army to acquire foreign weaponry, raising doubts about the economic feasibility of producing the TTD. Consequently, the project was canceled, and the TTD demonstrator was transferred to the South African Armour Museum in 1997.

The TTD was added to the game in Update 2.5 "Ixwa Strike", and can be found in the British ground forces tree. The tank's design is conventional, but it's built with a variety of solutions from the Olifant Mk.1 and Mk.2 tanks. Thanks to its 1,250 hp engine, the tank has good mobility. Its fire-control system features a high-quality thermal sight, and its 105 mm GT-3 gun fires powerful DM63 APFSDS rounds, allowing it to perform well on the battlefield. However, its large size and mediocre armor protection make it challenging to play on urban maps.
