The Harbour Defence Motor Launch (HDML) was a class of 486 British gunboats, designed in early 1939 by Admiralty engineer W.J. Holt as an inexpensive gunboat that could be easily produced by small shipyards to guard the vast coast of the British territories. The HDML was produced by the UK and Commonwealth nations and proved to be a success due to its reliability, with some being only retired in the mid-1970s.
The HMS ML 1383 entered service in January 1944, and served as an escort along the English Channel. Its service was relatively uneventful aside from when it participated in an evacuation of the crew of a convoy boat that struck a mine near Rotterdam around June 1944. The ML 1383 was decommissioned in October 1946, after which it was sold into private hands and its whereabouts remains unknown.
The ML 1383 was introduced in Update "Danger Zone". Armed with two 20 mm Oerlikon autocannons at the bow and stern, the ML 1383 offers strong firepower compared to its counterparts. However, it is heavily held back by its poor top speed and relatively weak hull, which make it vulnerable to returning fire.
