General information

Following World War II, the Royal Netherlands Navy began rebuilding its fleet. An important part of this rebuilding effort was the addition of aircraft carriers, which had proven to be highly effective during the war. To this end, the Navy quickly acquired the British aircraft carrier HMS Nairana and Fairey Firefly aircraft. In 1946, however, an opportunity arose to purchase a larger Colossus-class aircraft carrier. For this carrier, the Dutch wanted newer aircraft. In October, therefore, they ordered ten Hawker Sea Fury F.50 fighters, an export modification of the Sea Fury F.10. In 1948, they placed an additional order for 12 more aircraft. By 1950, the aircraft were approved for use on the carrier HNLMS Karel Doorman. Due to their successful post-war recovery, the Netherlands had the opportunity to produce aircraft independently. Thus, Fokker purchased a license to produce 25 Sea Fury FB.51s, an export version of the Sea Fury FB.11 fighter-bomber. They were withdrawn from service on the aircraft carrier in August 1955 and completely replaced by Sea Hawk aircraft by April 1957. One of the Dutch Sea Fury aircraft has survived to this day and is on display at the Netherlands National Military Museum.

The Dutch Sea Fury FB.51 was introduced in Update 2.39 "Dance of Dragons", in the French aviation research tree. It is a powerful fighter with an excellent roll rate and good energy conservation. However, it is poor at maneuvering and is ineffective against jet aircraft.
