The Vehículo de Reconocimiento y Combate de Caballería Centauro, or VRCC Centauro, is the export version of the Italian Centauro for the Spanish Army. The Spanish Army has been receiving the Italian heavy-armed B1 Centauro vehicles since 2000. These vehicles were manufactured in Italy and, in comparison to the base B1 version, featured a slightly modified frontal armor layout and the integration of smoke grenade launchers, akin to the second series of Centauro. The 2002 contract for a second batch also included partial licensing for the domestic production of vehicle components in Spanish factories, as well as an upgraded fire-control system with a more advanced gunner thermal sight. Additionally, the VRCC Centauro’s armament was enhanced with a second machine gun on the turret roof.
The VRCC was introduced in Update 2.19 "Drone Age". Based on early versions of Centauro, the new premium VRCC features a different frontal armor layout, later-model smoke grenade launchers, and a new DM33 round capable of penetrating up to 400 mm. Unfortunately, protection did not significantly increase. The VRCC is depicted with the markings of Spain’s 8th Light Cavalry Regiment, "Lusitania".
