The Semovente 105/25 Fiat-Ansaldo M43 is an Italian self-propelled artillery vehicle. In mid-1942, the Italian Army issued a technical requirement for a new combat vehicle that could provide infantry fire support and serve as a self-propelled gun, depending on the tactical situation. In response, Fiat-Ansaldo and OTO began developing prototype designs in parallel. In February 1943, they presented the Semovente 105/25 M43 to the military leadership. After successful trials, the vehicle was approved for mass production.
Initially, over 800 units were planned for production, to begin in April 1943. However, by that time, Italian industry was already severely strained, resulting in slow manufacturing rates. By 1944, around 120 Semovente 105/25 M43 vehicles had been produced, most of which served with Italian or German forces. By the end of World War II, only a few remained in service, and they were completely withdrawn after the war.
The M43 "G.C. Leoncello" was introduced in Update 1.85 "Supersonic". Compared to the standard version, it features a unique camouflage scheme of the Gruppo Squadroni Corazzati "Leoncello" unit. In combat, the vehicle combines strong firepower with small size, making it effective against contemporaries and more modern opponents. However, its 105mm gun has mediocre ballistics, making it best suited for medium-range engagements, particularly in urban environments.
