While waiting for the delivery of 20 ordered HKP9A helicopters, the Swedish test centre Försökscentralen (FC) rented four BO 105 CB-3 helicopters from MBB in 1985. Three were used for flight testing and tactics development and were later returned, while one was used for weapons systems testing and was later purchased and joined the Swedish Air Force as the 21st HKP9A helicopter. It was notably equipped with a modernised Saab HeliTOW complex with an additional FLIR thermal sight.
The HKP9A (FC) was introduced in Update "Wind of Change". Unlike its predecessor, it has new BGM-71D TOW-2 ATGMs, capable of destroying almost any MBT encountered in battle head-on. In addition, the helicopter is equipped with an improved aiming complex with a thermal imager, which significantly improves target detection on the battlefield both in normal daylight and nighttime conditions. In all other respects, it remains as small, manoeuvrable, and unarmoured as its predecessor.
