The Hawk 200 RDA was a British technology demonstrator aircraft. In the early 1990s, BAE Systems began developing various aircraft based on the Hawk 200 in hopes of attracting foreign buyers. One of these was the Hawk 200 RDA ZJ201. Its key difference from production aircraft was its ability to use Skyflash air-to-air missiles. A buyer was found, and the ZJ201 became the basis for the mass-produced Hawk 205 for the Saudi Arabian Air Force. However, the ZJ201 itself crashed on 6 June 1999 in Bratislava.
The Hawk 200 RDA was introduced in Update 2.51 "Spearhead". Unlike the earlier version, the Hawk 200 RDA is equipped with radar and can use two Skyflash missiles along with two additional AIM-9L missile suspension slots. However, it has lost its cannons and is still lacking in both manoeuvrability and speed, making it difficult to use the Skyflash missiles effectively.
