The Leopard 2AV, also known as the PT-19 or T19-AV, is an experimental German main battle tank. It was presented to the U.S. Army for a competition, where it competed with XM-1 prototypes at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. The Leopard 2AV represents an advanced version of the Leopard 2K project, which involved American specialists enhancing the tank's protection to address modern threats in the early 1970s.
In 1977, a Leopard 2K version with a modified hull and turret was presented in the U.S. under the designation Leopard 2AV. This version consisted of two prototype chassis and three completed turrets. The tank's primary weapon was the British-designed 105 mm L7A3 rifled tank gun. After testing at Aberdeen, the tank was upgraded with a 120 mm gun produced by Rheinmetall. This version later went into series production as the Leopard 2.
The Leopard 2AV was introduced as one of the rewards for the 2022 "Summer Quest" event. Representing a transitional model between the Leopard 1 and Leopard 2, it features good mobility, spaced armor, and a 105 mm gun with solid ammunition, including DM33 rounds. Being one of the earliest Leopard 2 variants, it has slightly worse damage compared to the 2A4 and lacks a thermal imager.
