The Erprobungsträger mit 3-achs-stabilisiertem Turm was an experimental platform with a three-axis stabilized turret developed by Rheinmetall in the 1960s. It was mounted on a Leopard tank chassis. The main objective was to study the feasibility of using three-axis stabilization for tank turrets to improve firing accuracy. The prototype was built in 1966 and underwent extensive trials with the Bundeswehr, during which the design proved technically viable and effective. However, the project was deemed too complex and expensive, so it was canceled. The sole prototype was later transferred to the Bundeswehr Technical Museum in Koblenz, where it remains on display.
The Turm III was introduced in Update 2.15 "Wind of Change". This tank boasts powerful armament and high mobility, but its light armor leaves it vulnerable to autocannons.
