The Focke-Wulf 190 "Dora" variant was designed to be a high-altitude fighter that could intercept bomber formations. However, that would never happen on a widespread scale, and 190 D-9s were relegated to attacking enemy fighters or ground attacks. The 190 D-9 was one of the most widely produced Fw variants, with over 1,800 built. With this many built, it was bound to end up in another country's hands, which happened with the Soviets. Although none would ever face combat against the Luftwaffe, the Soviets conducted several performance tests and mock dogfights against the La-7. Various pilots flew each plane and every time the La-7 came out on top, but this comes with the caveat that the 190 D-9 was not tested with methanol-water injection (MW50).
The Fw 190 D-9 (USSR) was introduced as a premium Soviet fighter in Update 1.37 but was later removed from in-game sales as part of the 9th Anniversary Sale. The D-9 is an excellent fighter thanks to its exceptional roll rate, climb rate, top speed, and much more. It also packs a deadly punch with two 20 mm MG 151 cannons and two additional 13.2 mm machine guns, all mounted near the nose. With the air target belt, the MG 151s can easily down a fighter with a burst and even a heavy bomber with properly placed shots. However, the one thing the D-9 lacks is its turn rate, which is abysmal without flaps. Many fighters can easily turn inside a Dora, so players should stick to energy fights. Due to the fact that the Soviet 190 D-9 is a captured version, it lacks suspended armament but is still an excellent fighter.
