The Le Brestois (F762) was a frigate in the French Navy and the second ship in the Le Corse class, also known as the E50 class. She was laid down in early 1952, launched on December 16, 1952, and commissioned on January 19, 1956. Designed as a fast anti-submarine escort vessel, the Le Corse class was armed with three twin 57 mm guns, two single 20 mm Erlikon guns, four triple 550 mm torpedo tubes, a 375 mm anti-submarine missile launcher from Bofors, and bomb launchers.
The Le Brestois served in the Mediterranean Fleet. In 1958, the ship was chosen for an experimental rearmament project: the 375 mm missile launcher was removed and one of the aft twin 57 mm guns was replaced with a 100 mm artillery system. The radar station was also upgraded. The frigate served in this configuration until 1975. After that, it was decommissioned and sunk as a target ship in 1976.
The Le Brestois was introduced in Update 2.51 "Spearhead". The frigate has a fairly rapid-fire 100mm gun supplemented by decent 57mm secondary guns. However, the armor penetration of the 100mm gun's shells is quite low, and the 57mm guns only have HE shells. It has quite a few torpedoes, but each carries only 200 kg of TNT. This is sufficient to counter light destroyers but insufficient against leaders or light cruisers.
