The Verdun was a French Guépard-class destroyer. Designed as an improved version of the Chacal-class destroyers, she featured enhanced armament and larger dimensions. She was laid down on August 10, 1927; launched on July 4, 1928; and commissioned on April 1, 1930. At the start of World War II, she was in the Mediterranean Sea as part of the 3rd Destroyer Division. She participated in the raid on Genoa. In September 1940, she was placed in reserve and disarmed. In June 1941, she was recommissioned. On November 27, 1942, the Germans were carrying out Operation Lila, and the crew scuttled the ship to prevent its capture. The ship was raised on September 29, 1943, but sank again in 1944 during an enemy air attack. In 1948, the ship was raised again and scrapped in Italy.
The Verdun was introduced in Update 2.55 "Ninth Wave" in her 1941 configuration. She is an early destroyer with a fairly powerful main battery and decent torpedoes but rather weak anti-aircraft defenses.
