Following the outbreak of the Vietnam War in 1955, Thailand found itself under threat from communist neighbors. Therefore, a decision was made to approach the US for military and political support in exchange for allowing the American U-Tapao airbase to be built within the country. As part of the pact, 31 Republic F-84G Thunderjets were transferred to Thailand in 1956, making them the first jet aircraft operated by the country. These aircraft would later be used during Thailand’s involvement in the Vietnam War as well as the Laotian Civil War until they were retired in 1966.
Introduced in Update “Storm Warning” as part of the Japanese tree, the RTAF’s F-84G-21-RE is completely identical to its American counterpart. Like other early jet fighters, the F-84G’s modus operandi is maintaining its speed. The aircraft is at its best when flying fast and at its worst while slow, therefore knowing when to engage and disengage from a dogfight is important. Other than aerial duties, the Thunderjet is also capable of providing air support using a variety of heavy payloads.
