The VT4, also known as the MBT-3000, is a Chinese export main battle tank developed by NORINCO in collaboration with the First Machinery Group Corporation of Inner Mongolia. It is an advanced version of the earlier MBT-2000 (also known as the Al-Khalid). The VT4 retains the same overall layout and several design features as its predecessor, including the autoloader, main gun and hull design. Many components were also taken from Chinese production tanks, such as the ZTZ-96B and ZTZ-99, including the FY-2 ERA. A proprietary Ch1000B automatic transmission and a 1200 hp VT/E1 diesel engine were also developed for the vehicle. The MBT-3000 concept was first presented at the 2012 Eurosatory exhibition, and the finished tank was subsequently displayed at the 2014 Norinco Armour Day and the 10th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai. As of 2025, several of these tanks are in service with Nigeria, around 62 serving in Thailand, while Pakistan has ordered 680 units.
The VT4 was introduced in Update 2.49 "Tusk Force". The tank is equipped with the standard Chinese ZPT-98A gun (a copy of the Soviet 2A46M) paired with a carousel-type autoloader with a reload time of 6.7 seconds. It has access to the excellent DTC10-125 round, which offers high penetration. Additionally, the VT4 boasts a respectable reverse speed of 17 km/h. Although this is lower than that of its predecessor, the MBT-2000, it is superior to most Chinese and Soviet production main battle tanks. The tank’s armour is neither particularly weak nor exceptionally strong: there are areas that many opponents will struggle to penetrate, but its vulnerable zones are fairly large and can be hit without much difficulty, even by inexperienced players.
