The Ba.65 A.80 is one of the single-seat variants of the Ba.65, a light, single-engine, monoplane ground-attack aircraft. Early versions of the aircraft were equipped with an Isotta Fraschini K-14fc engine, a licensed copy of the French Gnôme-Rhône K-14. However, the engine's power was insufficient, resulting in poor flight performance. To solve this problem, Italian engineers began installing more powerful Fiat A.80 RC.41 engines on the Ba.65, starting with the 82nd aircraft in 1938. This solution failed to significantly improve performance, though, and by the start of World War II, the aircraft had become obsolete and were placed in reserve. Due to a shortage of aircraft in 1940, however, the planes were hastily restored and sent to North Africa, where they were deployed against the United Kingdom and suffered heavy losses. By early 1942, most had been shot down or written off.
The Ba.65 A.80 was introduced in Update 2.55 "Ninth Wave". This version differs from the tree version primarily in its new engine. Thanks to this, the aircraft received a significant power boost, slightly improving its flight characteristics. However, the aircraft lost its rear gunner, leaving it vulnerable to attacks from behind. Otherwise, it remains the same light ground-attack aircraft with decent payload and armament, but mediocre flight characteristics and low survivability.
