The Avenger Mk. II is the British designation for the famous American carrier-based torpedo bomber, the TBF-1C Avenger. By the start of the war, British naval aviation was in a dire state. Most of the aircraft were obsolete and lacked the necessary flight characteristics. British aircraft carriers were equipped with the renowned yet outdated Swordfish torpedo bombers, which were replaced by the similarly outdated Albacore biplane. Lend-Lease provided the solution to this situation when it began supplying the Royal Navy with modern TBF-1 Avengers in 1942. The British slightly modified these aircraft to meet their requirements. A total of 958 Avengers of various models were sent to Great Britain, including 334 C models.
The Avenger Mk. II was introduced in Update 1.39. This aircraft has decent armor and survivability and can survive long bursts from the small caliber machine guns commonly found on fighters. Meanwhile, the torpedo bomber itself can respond with a defensive turret equipped with an excellent Browning M2 heavy machine gun. In addition to its survivability and protection, the British Avenger boasts excellent armament: two Browning M2 heavy machine guns and a variety of suspension weapons, including 500-, 1600-, and 2000-pound bombs for destroying enemy tanks or bases; torpedoes for attacking enemy ships; and two Uncle Tom rockets, the British equivalent of Tiny Tim rockets. That said, the lower part of the plane is protected by a weak 7.62 machine gun with very limited fire arc, and overall flight performance is lackluster compared to enemy fighters.
