The Firefly FR Mk V was a British aircraft developed by Fairey Aviation in 1940. Its design was based on an earlier Fleet Air Arm fighter, the Fairey Fulmar. In 1941, the Firefly entered service and mass production. The FR Mk V multirole variant, developed in 1948, differed from earlier versions by featuring hydraulically folding wings and a more powerful Griffon 74 engine. Between 1948 and 1956, a total of 352 Firefly Mk V aircraft were built. While in service with the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, these aircraft were used in the Korean War and the Malayan Emergency.
The Firefly FR Mk V was introduced in Update 1.49 "Weapons of Victory". Like its predecessor, this strike aircraft excels at destroying ground targets, including heavily armored vehicles, thanks to its ability to carry a large number of RP-3 rockets. Thanks to its more powerful engine, the Firefly FR Mk V can reach higher speeds. However, its maneuverability did not improve significantly, leaving it relatively ineffective in air combat. Additionally, the Firefly's large size and vulnerable cooling systems make it very vulnerable to enemy fire.
