The PG 02 (N°822) was a variant on the Italian Sparviero hydrofoil missile boat for the JMSDF, and the second in its class of three vessels. The JMSDF came to an agreement with Italy to licence-build up to 12 Nibbio-class boats, but opted for alternative Japanese armament instead; they replaced the OTO Melara gun with a 20 mm JM61 Vulcan cannon and the OTOMATs with Type 90 ship-to-ship missiles. Construction of the third boat was delayed in favour of Gulf War contributions, with further hydrofoil construction later rejected and abandoned.
The PG 02 was introduced as a premium pack in Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy". It was removed from sale after the 2020 New Year sale and was reintroduced in 2021 as a premium vehicle purchasable in-game with Golden Eagles in Update "Ixwa Strike". It could be compared to a quick and powerful piranha, being extremely fast and agile, while also equipped with a very deadly six-barrelled 20 mm JM61 rotary cannon with 3,000 rounds of ammunition mounted on the deck, as well as a Mark 36 SRBOC decoy system with 12 smoke rounds.
