Description
The 3JB10 is an Itallian Optronic Fire Control System. It is the only Optronic system in the game, and is found on the SIDAM 25.

General info / usage
The 3JB10 is an Optronic system, instead of using radar to track targets it uses a computer based TV tracking system; coupled with a laser range finder this allows the system to track targets and provide a firing lead indicator to the gunner. This system offers poor range and no search capability, but is not detectable by enemy radar warning receivers. The player must lock on to targets by placing the cross-hairs directly over a valid target and pressing the lock-on key. Once a target has been locked on to it can be tracked through a full 360°.

Comparison with analogues
Compared to tracking radars the 3JB10 offers a very poor maximum range of only 5 km. It also has the distinct draw back of only being able to lock on to targets between -20°/+20° in elevation (despite once locked on being able to track up to 85° in elevation). The minimum range of 100 m and very low minimum relative speed of 3.6 km/h are advantages compared to other tracking systems. Not setting off enemy Radar Warning Receivers is another advantage.

- Can only lock onto targets which are between -20°/+20° in elevation, meaning you cannot lock-on to targets too close or high.
History
The 3JB10 was developed in the mid 1980s for use on the SIDAM 25 Self Propelled Anti Aircraft system. As the 3JB10 relied on a video feed to track the target it proved to be of limited effectiveness at night and in poor weather conditions, however meant the SIDAM 25 was not vulnerable to anti-radiation missiles, and did not trigger the radar warning receivers on target aircraft.
