Satsuki (皐月, Namesake: (month of) May) was the fifth Mutsuki-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy, launched in March 1925. Her first assignment was with the 5th Destroyer Squadron of the Third Fleet, taking part in the first wave of Operation M, capturing the city of Aparri on the island of Luzon. She later participated in the invasions of Malaya, Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam, and Java. After the dissolution of the squadron in March 1942, Satsuki took on convoy escort duties in the Southwest Area Fleet. She later became heavily involved in transport runs and troop evacuations in the Solomon Islands, notably supporting operations at Guadalcanal and Kolombangara, frequently coming under aerial attack but never reporting any kills with her anti-air weaponry. By mid-1944, Satsuki was reassigned to Escort Squadron 31 and continued convoy escort duties between Japan, the Philippines, and Singapore. On 21 September 1944, while stationed at Manila Bay, she was struck by three direct bomb hits from dive bombers of Task Force 38, resulting in the deaths of 52 crew members. She was finally removed from the Navy List on 10 November 1944, while her surviving crew members returned to Japan.
Introduced in Update "New Power", Satsuki is a premium equivalent of Mutsuki. Other than the higher reward multipliers and a unique skin, both vessels are identical in all aspects. As such, Satsuki is an excellent vessel for sniping enemy ships at range. Her primary armament is one of the most powerful in her BR, largely owing to excellent high-velocity SAP shells with a large explosive filler. This is supplemented by some of the best long-range torpedoes in-game and mines or depth charges. However, she struggles against enemy torpedo boats and aircraft, being defended by just two 7.7 mm machine guns, far too little to pose a real threat.
