General info
Flight Performance
The I-225 is the latest claim to the throne of glorious Russian Bias! With its high speed, decent armament, good turning capabilities and solid climb rate, this Super-Mig is the best all around dogfighter Russia has to offer. Although relatively useless as an interceptor in real life, the I-225 is quite potent in War Thunder, being one of 4 Russian Props that is good at altitude, which is very unique for the Russian tree that is mostly comprised of low-altitude prop planes. From take-off and into the fight, this MiG is an overall smooth operator and can be very competitive even when facing early jets.

Usage in the battles
The I-225 should be used to climb to bomber altitude (4-6k km) and act as an interceptor, and it can perform this role amicably with its good climb rate, high speed and powerful, fast firing quad ShVAK 20 mm cannons that are good at starting fires. Be weary that the MiG has no bulletproof glass in the front to protect this pilot, so you should never tail any bomber and approach from oblique angles or force head-ons.
If one either kills all the bombers or there are no bombers to be found, you are free to fly as a dogfighter versus other fighters. When engaging fighters, primarily employ a Boom-&-Zoom or energy fighting tactics. Versus less maneuverable planes such as the F8F-1B, you can potentially turn-fight but be careful to not lose too much energy, as you may struggle to regain it.

History
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 was a development to remedy the technical deficiencies the previous MiG-1 was plagued by. Although maintaining the same airframe and basic construction as the MiG-1, the MiG was given a new designation due to the modifications were fitted as follows:
- The engine was moved forward 100 mm (4 in) to improve longitudinal stability.
- A new water radiator (OP-310) was fitted
- The first two modifications allowed an additional 250 litres (66 US gal) fuel tank to be fitted underneath the pilot's seat.

- The back of the pilot's seat was armored with an 8 mm (0.31 in) plate (increased to 9 mm (0.35 in) in later models).
- The supercharger intakes were streamlined.
- The main landing gear was strengthened and the size of the main wheels was increased to 650 x 200 mm (25.5 x 7.87 in).
- The canopy glazing was extended aft to improve the view to the rear which allowed for the installation of a shelf behind the pilot for an RSI-1 radio (later upgraded to an RSI-4).
