Hiburi-class escort ship

Description

The Hiburi-class escort ships (日振型海防艦, Hiburi-gata kaibōkan) were a class of coastal defense ships operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Designed as part of Japan’s urgent wartime naval expansion program, the class was based on the earlier Ukuru-class but simplified for mass production. These vessels were primarily tasked with anti-submarine warfare, convoy escort, and coastal patrol duties.
