The IJN Hayanami (Japanese: 早波, "Early Waves") was a Yugumo-class destroyer in the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was laid down at the Maizuru Navy Yard on January 15, 1942; launched on December 19, 1942; and commissioned on July 31, 1943. That autumn, she escorted transports and landing ships on routes from mainland Japan to Micronesian islands and sailed to the Solomon Islands as an escort ship. On July 7, 1944, she was sunk after being torpedoed by the American submarine Harder near the Tawi-Tawi Island. The 45 surviving crew members were rescued by the destroyer Urakaze.
The IJN Hayanami was introduced as one of the rewards for the 2021 Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.. The ship has powerful torpedo armament and good speed. However, due to the lack of armor-piercing and semi-armor-piercing shells in the arsenal of its main-caliber guns, it will be difficult to outgun some opponents in an artillery duel.
