Since the 1960s, Denmark's mechanized forces had relied on M113 APCs, and by the end of the Cold War, their weak firepower had become a significant disadvantage. To address this issue, the Danes installed 25mm guns on some of their M113A2s, but this was only a temporary solution. This became apparent after the vehicles' brief deployment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they proved to be obsolete. Wanting a new combat vehicle, the Danish Army began conducting comparative tests in 2003 involving Swedish Stridsvagn 90 (Strf 9040B) IFVs and other foreign vehicles. The Swedish IFVs were found to be the best, so the Danish army planned to lease 15 CV9040A and four CV9040C vehicles. However, the Swedes offered an updated version of the vehicle armed with a 35mm cannon, the CV9035 Mk.III, and the Danes accepted.
On December 16, 2005, Denmark ordered 45 CV9035DK vehicles after making minor modifications. The vehicles' chassis were built in Sweden, and their turrets were manufactured in Denmark. The new IFV was equipped with modern electronics, a more powerful engine than earlier models, additional modifications for crew comfort, and the option of installing MEXAS armor. The first 25 vehicles entered Danish service on June 23, 2008, and the remaining 20 followed shortly thereafter. Ten of the vehicles were modified and sent to Afghanistan. They remained there from January 11 to February 15, 2010. Afterward, they were sent back to Denmark, where they remain in service to this day.
The Danish CV9035DK was introduced in Update 2.37 "Seek & Destroy" as a part of the Swedish ground research tree. Unlike other vehicles in the CV90 family, this one is equipped with a new 35 mm Bushmaster III autocannon. It is an enlarged version of the 30 mm gun found on the CV9030FIN. The vehicle also stands out for its thermal imager and good mobility, but it suffers from weak armor and the lack of ATGMs.
