Description

Write an introduction to the article in 2-3 small paragraphs. Briefly tell us about the history of the development and combat using the weaponry and also about its features. Compile a list of air, ground, or naval vehicles that feature this weapon system in the game.

Vehicles equipped with this weapon

General info

The Type 8 No.2 torpedo has a diameter of 610 mm, a length of 9 m, and weighs 2,362 kg. The Torpedo Mode modification increases the range to 20 km but decreases the speed to 50 km/h.

Effective damage

The Type 8 No.2 torpedo carries 346 kg Shimose warhead, which is equivalent to 380.6 kg TNT.

Comparison with analogues

The Type 8 No.2 is a more conventional torpedo and will pale in comparison to the Type 93 Model 1, Mod 2 (610 mm) & Type 93 Model 3 (610 mm) but will still outshine other nations their torpedoes, having a modest 380 kg TNT equivalent it still outperforms the German G7a (533 mm), including range but slightly slower.

Usage in battles

Describe situations when you would utilise this torpedo in-game (vehicle, pillbox, base, etc)

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the weaponry in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark pros and cons as a list.

History

This torpedo is using Shimose powder. Shimose powder (下瀬火薬, Shimose kayaku) was a type of explosive shell filling developed by the Japanese naval engineer Shimose Masachika. The explosive was more stable than picric acid, and generated more heat and blast power than any other explosive available at the time. It also does not produce much smoke, which was an important advantage over normal gunpowder in combat. Shimose powder was adopted by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1893, not only for naval artillery, but also for naval mines, depth charges and torpedo warheads.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
