The 4 x 20 mm Vierlingsflak C/38 cannons are the star of this ship, capable of shredding apart any type of ship, at least at low rank. The ammo doesn't really matter as there is an abundant reserve for mass firings.  Despite the sheer volume of fire, the 20 mm Vierlingsflak has an effective range of just over 2 Km, limiting the SF40 Leitche to fairly close quarters fighting.  The lengthy reload time for the Vierlingsflak C/38 requires players to use 1-2 seconds bursts, more than enough time to wipe out any similar leveled vessels.

The 37 mm is rather useless compared to the primary armament due to its limited armaments, but can be used to peg weak ships at a distance and pester off incoming aircraft. Its position above the deck limits its firing arc against surface ships.  However, unlike the 20 mm, the 37 mm extends the range of the SF40 Leichte's AA capabilities.  Your crew will begin engaging air targets within 3.5 KM, well beyond the 2 KM range of 20 mm and lower guns.  With Auxillary Gunner Accuracy upgrades, the 37 mm can shower planes with a steady and accurate wall of flak. Since the gun reloads in under 1 second, fire will remain constant for any targets flying within 3.5 KM of your SF40 Leichte.

General info

Survivability and armour

The SF40 Leichte offers German players the first real armored ship. Each of the 20 mm Vierlingsflak C/38 cannons sit behind 12 mm of hardened steel. Surrounding each cannon is a cubicle of 10 mm rolled homogenous armor. The conning tower is encased in 10mm of rolled armor, offering significant protection from .50 Caliber projectiles. On top of the bridge, the 37 mm cannon boasts 8 mm of hardened steel, enough armor to protect against strafing from fighters.

The armor around each cannon and the bridge covers well over half the deck, giving any captain peace of mind. However, anything larger than 30 mm will pose a problem. Since the SF40 is rather slow, captains will need to rely on her armor to win engagements. Lateral fire has the best chance of bouncing off her armor.

Mobility

Write about the ship’s mobility. Evaluate its power and maneuverability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward speed and reverse speed.

Armament

Primary armament

The 4 x 20 mm Vierlingsflak C/38 cannons are the star of this ship, capable of shredding apart any type of ship, at least at low rank. The ammo doesn't really matter as there is an abundant reserve for mass firings.

Secondary armament

The 37 mm is rather useless compared to the primary armament due to its limited armaments, but can be used to peg weak ships at a distance and pester off incoming aircraft.

Usage in battles

The best method of using the SF40 Light is to hide behind a rock near the capture points and rake anything that tries to cap with the large assortment of autocannons. It is also possible to flank around, get to the sides of the enemy and riddle them with cannon ammo as well.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • 4 flakvierlings absolutely shred every aircraft and light armored vessel
  • Almost invincible to guns of rank 3 ships and below as well as aircraft machine guns and low caliber cannons
  • Twin-hulled barge, making the deck very stable for firing
  • Packs a lot of ammo

Cons:

  • Easy target for torpedoes and dive bombers
  • Reacts extremely slow to rudder input
  • Large target from any angle.
  • Placement of the flakvierlings mean that at most 3 of them can fire at the same surface target.
  • 20mm rounds struggle with armored targets
  • Firing leaves a storm of tracers, making you extremely easy to locate and identify

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ship in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article.

Media

An excellent addition to the article will be video guides, as well as screenshots from the game and photos.
