Vehicles equipped with this weapon

General info

The Mg 42 is a jack of all trades of machineguns with no real weaknesses limiting its use for larger part.

Available shells

Describe the shells that are available for the cannon and their features and purpose. If it concerns autocannons or machine guns, write about different ammo belts and what is inside (which types of shells).

Comparison with analogues

MG 34 (7.92 mm)

M1919A4 (7.62 mm)

DT (7.62 mm)

MAC 31 (7.5 mm)

Usage in battles

The Mg 42 has a very high rate of fire meaning that the often drum belt is emptied very fast meaning that against vehicles that can be penetrated single shots should be used until damage is being inflicted.

Pros and cons

Summarize and briefly evaluate the weaponry in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark pros and cons as a list.

Pros:

  • high rate of fire

Cons:

  • low ammo capasity
  • low penetration

History

The mg 42 was significantly less expensive on the german industry of the time being made out of stamped metal and employing a new roller locked action.

of note should be the barrel changing mechanism requiring the barrel to leave the heatshield from the side requiring more space meaning that the mg 34 was still in production for the tiger and panther series hull machineguns.

Media

An excellent addition to the article would be a video guide, as well as screenshots from the game and photos.
