The 70 ft MGB-61 is a Rank I British motor torpedo boat with a battle rating of 1.7 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in during the Closed Beta Test for Ground Forces before Update 1.41. It was introduced in Update 1.83 "Masters of the Sea" as part of the British fleet closed beta test.

General info

Survivability and armour

MGB-61 has no armour, so a few hits from ships with cannons will destroy MGB-61. Though small boats such as motor torpedo boats will have a tough time trying to destroy MGB-61 due the the powerful guns on board. MGB-61 has a crew of 12. In terms of survival, most small boats will have a tough time trying to destroy the MGB because of the powerful guns, though larger ships will have no problem.

Mobility

Write about the ship’s mobility. Evaluate its power and maneuverability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward speed and reverse speed.

Armament

Primary armament

The MGB-61 has two turrets at the front of the boat, both have two 12.7 mm Vickers MK.V machine guns. Both turrets can turn 360 degrees.

Secondary armament

The MGB-61 has a powerful 40 mm 2pdr Rolls Royce semi-automatic cannon as a secondary armament, capable of destroying any boat or ship. The 40mm 2pdr has a rapid firing rate, but it can only turn in one direction at a time.

Special armament

2 x Mk.VII depth charges

Usage in battles

MGB-61 capable at destroying all small boats and most ships due to the firepower. The 12.7mm guns should be used to take out fast MTBs due to the accuracy of vickers machine guns, which can fire in any direction. The 40mm 2pdr cannon should be used to take out larger boats due to it's rapid firing rate, a few good shots should do the job. Unfortunately it can only turn in one direction so its traverse speed is low.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Powerful armaments
  • Main armament turrets are able to turn 360 degress
  • Semi-auto cannon at stern provide good flank and rear firepower

Cons:

  • No armour
  • Not as fast as other MTBs
  • 2pdr cannon has average accuracy
  • 2 pdr has slow traverse speed

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ship in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article.

Media

An excellent addition to the article will be video guides, as well as screenshots from the game and photos.
