The Ki-43-II Hayabusa is a Rank II Japanese fighter with a battle rating of 1.7 (AB), 2.0 (RB), and 2.7 (SB). It was in the game since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.29.

General play style

The Ki-43-II Hayabusa was built from the ground up to be a very maneuverable turn fighter. It sacrifices any additional armament and armor for the ability to turn and climb. The aircraft was fitted with butterfly flaps (a type of combat flap) that drastically boost its ability to turn. Since the Hayabusa lacks any armor you will need to fly it with a defensive mind set. This aircraft is very comparable to the A6M series in the regards of handling and tactics.

Cons:

  • Limited armament
  • Don't be fooled by the 12.7mm machine guns, they are no where near as effective as their American equivalents. Penetration and damage are much lower.
  • Lacks armor

Modules and improvements

Performance and ammo belts should be the immediate focus. Avoid bombs until the rest of the modules are unlocked.

History of creation and combat usage

In February of 1942 five prototypes were constructed for possible improvements to the Ki-43. The IJAAF settled on their new model by October of that year. The aircraft was designated Ki-43-IIa and went immediately into full production. Modifications included correcting the issue of wings collapsing under stress, as well as shortening the overall wing span. The wings were now capable of carrying bombs on wing mounted hard points. The engine was replaced with a more powerful Nakajima Ha-115 radial engine that produced 1,130hp. The aircraft was fitted with a two-speed supercharger and a three bladed metal propeller. The engine cowling was changed for a larger air intake to the supercharger. other small adjustments came with a taller windscreen, canopy, a better gunsight, armor plating for the pilot, and a rubber coating to help protect the fuel tanks.

During production numerous other changes occurred along the way. These changes included a new oil cooler, air intake, and a auxiliary cooler. The hard points were moved further out on the wing to prevent the bombs from striking the propeller during dive bombs.
