General play style

Vehicle characteristics

Tactics

Patience is key to survival on this plane. Climbing to 5-7 km(or higher if needed) is strongly recommended. Prime targets should be B-29's since they can very quickly end game. If there are no bombers around, lone/distracted/slow/highest altitude fighters should be next targets. Keeping speed at high level and BnZooming is highly recommended. Don't dive at first target, wait until whole team gets spotted.

J7W1 carrier 4x30mm Type-5 cannons placed in nose, making aiming and taking down heavy bombers a lot easier. Limited ammo requires some trigger discipline. Recommended belts are Stealth (710m/s HEF, but much more HE damage than HEF-T) or Tracers (920m/s HEF-T).

Pros

  • Very accurate for it's caliber
  • Tracer belt has high shell velocity with very good fragmentation damage
  • Stealth belt has good high explosive and fragmentation damage

Cons

  • Most belts have the infamous 'Practice' shells
  • Mediocre fire rate
  • rather low shell velocity with all belts but 'Tracers'
  • Varying velocities between tracer rounds and non-tracer HEF/HEFI rounds makes this gun lose a lot of efficiency when not using 'Tracers' or 'stealth' belts.

Modules and improvements

History of creation and combat usage

The J7W1 was perhaps the most recognisable airframe of World War II. It was produced by Kyūshū Hikōki K.K. Shinden means "Magnificent Lightning" in Japanese. It was developed by Kyūshū to protect the Japanese home islands when the B-29 Superfortresses started bombing Japan. The J7W1 Shinden was the brainchild of Capt. Masaoko Tsuruno. Who was part of the technical staff of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The project was given to Kyūshū, not because of design expertise, but because they were available to build it. The original idea was to have the Shinden as a jet powered plane. But then a six-bladed propeller was installed instead. The large propeller needed an unusually long tricycle landing gear. It had four 30mm cannon installed at the front to balance out the heavy engine at the back. Since Japan was in a desperate position the navy ordered the Shinden into production even before the first prototype flew. Due to delays the first prototype only flew 2 weeks before the war ended. Capt. Tsuruno only had three flights in the Shinden clocking 45 minutes total. The jet-engined version was still being designed when the war ended.
