Description

GarageImage IPM1.jpg

The Tank, Combat, Full Tracked, 105-mm Gun IPM1, or just IPM1, is a Rank VII American medium tank with a battle rating of 11.0 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in Update 1.81 "The Valkyries".

The tank does not differ much from the M1 Abrams. The main difference is added NERA in the turret cheeks which makes the turret slightly longer. The IPM1 only served in limited numbers during the first gulf war.

General info

Survivability and armour protection

The Armor of the IPM1 is very similar to the M1 Abrams. It will stop most chemical rounds, with the advent of the ADATS, it will not stop everything as the missiles will penetrate 900mm of armor. However, you can rest assured, all HEAT-FS is defeated by the new NERA. The old armor weaknesses are still present, the turret ring, rear and sides. Penetration of the turret cheeks by APFSDS rounds can cause ammunition detonation, as the round will breach the blowout protection and enter the crew compartment, causing subsequent crew knockout. It is best to not rely on armor in any circumstance. Only in rare and strange occasions will it prove adequate.

Mobility

Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forwards and backwards.

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • 800 mm of NERA in the turret cheeks is enough to stop any chemical round in the game
  • Has a very fast reload (6.5 sec when stock)
  • Fast reverse speed

Cons:

  • Armour won't stop most APFSDS rounds fired from encountered enemies
  • The stock M735 shell does not reliably penetrate the tank's opponents
  • Extra armour slows it down

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ground vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
