Overview
Ground Zero was added in Update "New Power", albeit without any patch notes indicating so. It is a variation on the Alaska map and differs solely in the fact that the centre of the city (where the B point is found in the Conquest configuration) has been turned into a large crater and that the surrounding buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
Historical Background
This map is set in a fictional area inspired by "the stunning mountainous landscape of Alaska". Due to Alaska's close proximity to Russia it would be a likely candidate for the starting point of a Soviet land invasion of America / Canada during the cold war. Indeed, the United States took the threat of an invasion of Alaska seriously with "Operation Washtub" being started in 1950. Under the top secret program secret agents and supply caches were deployed throughout Alaska in order to collect intelligence and help American force escape / evade capture in the event of a Russian occupation.
