General play style

The Fw-190 A-8 possesses far below average speed, acceleration, and climb ability for its tier. It does, however, have great high speed control and impressive armament that will shred any enemy fighter almost instantly. It is recommended at the start of a match to climb to the side and let your teammates engage first so you can put your excellent BnZ ability to work. If you spot a bandit at the same altitude, a head-on attack followed by an evasive maneuver and then extending away to repeat the processes is a recommended tactic. If a bandit has superior energy (combination of speed and altitude) and is pressing an attack against you, try to drag them to friendlies, but don't sacrifice too much energy to do so. If you are skilled enough, another tactic would be to initiate a scissors; either rolling or flat, and then break away when he goes to yo-yo to control his overshoot. The scissors is a highly effective maneuver in the Fw 190 A-8.

Tactics

Flying this Fw190 tends to be very defensive and relies on neutralizing an enemy's energy advantage and capitalizing on your own. Maneuvers that work well include the Split-S, Chandelle and anything that requires a high rate of roll. One of these its dive and roll in a single direction whilst applying rudder, this causes a very tight barrel roll that few aircraft can hope to gain a firing solution on. another way to clear your six is to pitch steeply up and roll over forcing an overshoot and potentially giving you a firing solution. It's possible to dismember superior aircraft simply because of the roll rate and firepower this plane possesses. If you are skilled enough to press for a gun solution when scissoring an enemy, you could be greatly rewarded. In summary, climb to the side, BnZ steadily, never get in a sustained turn fight, and use your rate of roll to free yourself when cornered.

Specific enemies worth noting

The Fw 190 A-8 sits at a high battle rating, close to the Spitfire LF Mk. IX and La-7B-20, both of which are vastly superior planes overall. It frequently faces Tempests, F8F-1s, P-51D variants, Griffon Spitfires and F4U-1C's. Unfortunately, the A-8 is by large worse than all of these planes, but it still possesses some unique advantages and if piloted correctly is capable of dishing out death. However, these advantages are quite predictable and easily nullified by an attentive opponent.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Great roll rate at moderate speeds;
  • Great energy retention (Though somewhat poor compared to Spitfire mk 9s in the b/z role);
  • Heavy armament;
  • Plenty of ammunition;
  • Well armored from the front;
  • Easy to land with mouse aim due to the higher stall speed;
  • Features a unique camouflage from all other Fw 190.
  • Small and rugged air-frame;
  • Is sometimes viewed as a free kill causing enemies to commit fatal mistakes.

Cons:

  • Poor acceleration;
  • Poor sustained turn;
  • Rate of climb is bad;
  • Poor at altitude Performance;
  • One of the slowest T-IV fighters;
  • No other unlockable camouflage;
  • Very bricky to fly in general.

Modules and improvements

As with any high tier fighter: paramount importance should be placed on unlocking any of the engine upgrades. With 4x 20mm mg151's even stock ammo will chew through all but the most heavily armed enemies but researching these belts will help unlock tier 4 performance mods so you can get "Engine Injection" and it will also dramatically increase your 20mm's performance by upgrading the guns to be more accurate and use Air Targets ammo for more per-shot damage.

History of creation and combat usage

The most produced Fw190” Anton” variant was the A8. Starting Production in Feb 1944 with 1334 produced during the course of the war. The A8 was virtually identical to its predecessor but had the ability to use Mw-50 boost. The A8 was incredibly versatile and saw use as a fighter, bomber hunter, ground attack aircraft and even a night fighter. It served in numbers on both Eastern and Western theaters

It uses the BMW 801 “Q” 14-cylinder Twin row radial engine and has the ability to use Mw-50 Water-Methanol injection; the mixture, cooling slats, supercharger gears and prop pitch are all automated to reduce pilot strain. The BMW 801 is a very rugged engine. Armament is superb with 4x Mg151/20”E” cannons which are some of the best cannons in game and 2xMg131 13mm machine guns, it historically could mount the EtC 501 mount allowing for either a 250Kg or 500Kg bomb or 2x1 W.Gr. 21.rockets. Many planes also received radar and other specialized modifications from feild crews, the most common was the deletion of the 2 outer Mg151's
