Description

GarageImage Do 335 B-2.jpg

The Do 335 B-2 is a premium Rank IV German strike fighter with a battle rating of 5.7. It was introduced in Update 1.57 "Battle March".

The Do.335 can only be played as a ground attack or aircraft interceptor. It is not advised to dogfight or even to evade pursing enemy aircraft. However it is normally able to deliver a first strike.

It's three 30 mm and two 20 mm cannons are able to make short work of any enemy vehicle which may try to oppose this unique plane. Not only that, it is able to carry up to 1000 kg of bombs. Its airframe is one of the strongest in the game. It is able to take hit after hit and can survive hard landings without too much critical damage. When the enemy is on your six o'clock, the rear engine is the most common part to be destroyed during that engagement. If the enemy is coming from the front they will very likely destroy the front engine or knock your pilot out. However, having one of the engines destroyed will not cause an large problem apart from a slower plane. Nevertheless you should immediately disengage and return to base to repair.

Taking off and landing:
The 'Pfeil' has a rare push-pull design, with large twin vertical stabilizers with pusher propeller mounted behind it.

  • Taking Off: Taking off when fully loaded out with bombs very hard and long. Do not force the plane to climb or you will hit the vertical stabilizer and cause damage to it. The worst case scenario results in the plane crashing.
  • Landing: When on final approach, make sure you slow the plane down to ~270 km/h (~170 mph) before the gear and flaps are deployed. About 30 feet from the ground, lower the engine's throttle to 0% then flare slightly, land and apply full-brakes. **If you come in too steep, you will either hit the lower vertical stabilizer or the tail, if this happens - level the plane off and still continue with your landing. However in the worst case it could cause you to spin/roll and crash. The air frame is very strong so it should still be repairable in most cases.

  • 8 mm Steel - Behind pilot's seat

Armaments

Offensive armament

The Do 335 B-2 is armed with:

  • 2 x 30 mm MK 103 cannon, wing-mounted (140 rpg = 280 total)
  • 1 x 30 mm MK 103 cannon, nose-mounted (70 rpg = 70 total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannon, nose-mounted (200 rpg = 400 total)

Suspended armament

Main article: Bombs

The Do 335 B-2 can be outfitted with payloads such as:

  • 2 x 250 kg SC250JA bombs (500 kg total)
  • 1 x 500 kg SC500K bomb (500 kg total)
  • 2 x 250 kg SC250JA bombs + 1 x 500 kg SC500K bomb (1,000 kg total)

Usage in the battles

  • The Do 335s all have poor rudders, but a very good roll rate. Try using the roll rate to compensate for the rudder. It will take some time to get used to it.
  • When engaging a fighter, try to only pick head-ons and fighters that are unaware of you.
  • The Do 335 is usually faster than most planes at high altitude, always be higher than the other team. If you're always higher or at the same level as the other team, you'll never be caught by other planes.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Very tough air frame.
  • Very good roll rate
  • Two engines in push-pull configuration - can fly with one engine if the other one is damaged.
  • Great acceleration when no secondary ordnance are equipped.
  • Excellent control in dives, it can dive at +450 mph (+725 kph) and still be able to pull out.
  • Excellent firepower - up to 95 mm of penetration with HVAP-T Belt.
  • Excellent for hunting and destroying large enemy aircraft i.e. Bombers, float-planes.
  • Good choices for secondary bomb load, can carry up to 1000Kg.
  • Great RP and SL rewards

Cons:

  • Large air frame.
  • Long take off strip required due to it's heavy weight and large air frame.
  • Long wings.
  • Long time to deploy landing gear.
  • Pusher and puller propeller, dual configuration.
  • It is easy to damage the rear propeller and/or lower rudder on take off and landing.
  • Due to its unique configuration, it takes time to learn how to take off and land.
  • Rear engine overheats slightly faster.
  • Rear engine is more likely to be damaged during combat.
  • Mediocre rudder.
  • Mediocre handling.
  • Unable to dogfight any fighter aircraft due to it's large air frame.

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ historical reference" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/Name-vehicles/historical reference) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to include links to sources at the end of the article.

Media

An excellent addition to the article will be video guides, as well as screenshots from the game and photos.
