Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Powerful 120 mm gun
  • Decent frontal armour, thanks to the use of composites
  • DM33 is a 10.7 round at a full BR lower - can penetrate all tanks at its own BR and can easily penetrate weak spots in an uptier
  • No ammorack in the turret - a penetration in the turret rarely destroys the tank in one shot
  • Front of the turret is immune to 105mm HEAT-FS and lower tier 105mm, 120mm and 125mm APFSDS
  • Generation 1 thermals for the gunner
  • High reverse
  • High turret rotation speed
  • While not as effective as a Challenger at it, the Ariete (P) can make good use of hull down positions
  • Decent mobility at medium and high speeds
  • Fantastic gun handling characteristics
  • All-around a capable and fun tank to use

Cons:

  • Low reactive mobility at low speed
  • Armour is thin and should not be relied upon - a trait shared by all versions of the Ariete
  • Huge ammorack in the front
  • The front armour of the turret can be pierced by higher tier 105mm, 120mm and 125mm APFSDS
  • The 2 rifle caliber machineguns are not very effective against enemy helicopters or aircraft
  • Weak spot beneath the gun always knocks the gun out
  • At the time of writing this, it's currently Italy's only 9.7 - this makes it harder to create an effective line-up around it. You need to either uptier it with the other Ariete's, which are more capable than the pre-series or uptier less capable tanks like the OF-40 Mk.2a, Leopard 1A5 and Centauro's

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
