The Saab J-35XS turns very fast, however turning too fast at lower speeds can also lead to a "superstall", which may cause a crash. Tight turns also lead to a significant loss of energy/speed.

    • 1 x 30 mm Akan m/55 cannon + 12 x large calibre countermeasures

Suspended armament

Main articles: RB24J, m/56D, Srak m/57B

The Saab J35XS can be outfitted with the following ordnance:

  • Without Load
  • 6 x RB24J air-to-air missiles
  • 76 x 7,5 cm srak m/57B rockets
  • 12 x m/56D rockets
  • 4 x RB24J air-to-air missiles + 76 x 7,5 cm srak m/57B rockets
  • 4 x RB24J air-to-air missiles + 12 x m/56D rockets
  • 2 x RB24J air-to-air missiles + 76 x 7,5 cm srak m/57B rockets + 8 x m/56D rockets

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

Pros:

  • Decent speed
  • Effective high caliber flares/chaffs
  • Great turn rate at low speeds
  • Extremely powerful in a downtier

Cons:

  • Bleeds speed fast
  • Janky gun placement (Hard to aim)
  • Inadequate in high uptiers (11.7)
  • Very limited count of flares/chaffs
  • Average turn speed above ~900 km/h

History

Saab 35 is the main name for the "Draken"- series of airplanes produced/designed by the Swedish company SAAB. The J35 series had many different variants like the "J35D" or "J35A", both implemented into War Thunder. After some time SAAB wanted to produce export variants of the "Draken" and those variants were named "J35X" with X standing for "export version". There were 4 different main versions of the J35X exported. The Finnish J35XS is the only one currently in War Thunder and the full name for this Finnish export version is J35XS. ("XS" stands for "Export-Suomi") [1]

All the official export versions of the "Draken" were just variants of the regularly used J35D and J35F models with the J35XS being a variant of the J35F one. Therefore it featured almost every feature that the F-variant had. Both the J35F and J35J had IRST which was a very useful function for the airplane as it didn't produce any radar waves that could be detectable by the enemy. With the J35XS being a variant of the J35F it of course featured an IRST-system.[2]

The most advanced "Draken" (The J35J) was reserved for Swedish use only and wasn't available for export countries.

In the early development of the premium aircraft J35XS, it was considered to have the fully Swedish J35J instead as the new premium rank VII aircraft. Both of them are very similar but the J35J is slightly more advanced. [3]

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).
