Comparison with analogues
Give a comparative description of cannons/machine guns that have firepower equal to this weapon.
Usage in battles
The Akan m/70B is a multi-purpose autocannon. Using APFSDS means that you can eliminate a well protected MBT, even from the front if a weak spot is penetrated, although flanking manoeuvres are better suited as the post-penetration damage is poor with APFSDS. Lighter targets such as IFVs and SPAAs will stand no chance against this autocannon with its fast fire rate and its APFSDS. The Akan m/70B is also equipped with HE-VT, able to deal with helicopters and against jets. Best to use HE-VT against aircraft proceeding on their attack run, and catching them off guard.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Has access to APFSDS which can knock out any opponents it faces
- Has access to HE-VT which can deal with any helicopters and aircraft
- High rate of fire
- Good penetration for an autocannon
- High ammo count
Cons:
- Easy to go through the 24 stage ready rack
- Post-penetration damage with APFSDS is poor
History
By the end of World War II, the Bofors L/60 had proven itself to be an excellent design for an anti-aircraft autocannon. However, the post-war and early Cold War marked the dawn of the jet age. With aircraft achieving higher speeds, it became a challenge for the Bofors L/60 to take them down. In the late 1940s, the Bofors created the new Bofors L/70 which was adopted by the Swedish Army as the Lvakan m/48. However, Bofors would continue to work on improving the design, gradually increasing the rate of fire from 240 rounds per minute to 300 and later 330 rpm, and in the 1970s, they introduced proximity fuse ammunition which would be developed into the Akan m/70B. This specific variant of the Bofors L/70 was introduced for the CV90 series of infantry fighting vehicles which was mounted upside down to fit inside the turret and equipped with programmable shells capable of use with airburst, burrowing, impact or proximity fuses, as well as armour-piercing ammunition.
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
