The PAGENAME is a rank name German twin-engine fighter Battle-rating. It was introduced in Update 1.57 "Battle March".

The Do. 335 is a difficult plane to fly. It has good armament, however, lacks anything else of substance. Sub-par climb, bad turning, and handling, as well as the lack of armor and a propensity to catch fire make this aircraft a very difficult grind. Pilots should utilize the air spawn, then climb as high as possible and go after bombers. Once available, the air belts are devastating against bombers; however, as the plane lacks armor and catches fire quickly, tailing should be avoided. It is also possible to Boom & Zoom with, however, the plane tends to veer off target in prolonged dives.

Contrary to popular belief the Do 335 Pfeil is not a super prop. The initial design was a Schnellbomber (speedy bomber), but with the start of the emergency fighter program, most bomber contracts were shelved to increase fighter production. At Dornier, the idea arose to reconfigure the current bomber design into a heavy fighter to exploit the failure of Focke Wulf's Ta 154 Moskito.

Consequently, flight agility is mediocre, lending itself in feeling to Dornier's previous heavy fighters: Do 17 Z-7 and Do 217N. Both of which were coincidentally bombers by birth too. The exception to this trait is the fantastic roll-rate, accomplished by boosted ailerons as seen on the Ta 152H-1.
Usage in the battles
Boom & Zoom: While it does not have the capability to turn, accelerate or climb (sustained) quickly as might an energy fighting aircraft, it can be used to make quick, swooping attacks on enemy bombers, and in a limited capacity, fighters. Advantaged by its swift dive acceleration, Boom & Zoom is a viable tactic; however, it should be noted that prolonged engagements with enemy aircraft should be avoided, as energy fighters will quickly deplete its momentum, and turn-fighting aircraft will easily outmanoeuvre this lumbering aircraft. Instead, diving on a target with a lower energy state (it is permissible to engage some slower aircraft in level flight as the 335 can reach speeds well in excess of 450 km/h within seconds of levelling the aircraft out of a climb) and then simply running away and zoom climbing out of range if the target is not killed on the first run is a significant advantage for DO-335 pilots who wish to return home alive. It may take several runs to kill a target, even with the heavy armament possessed by this aircraft, however momentum conservation is a key advantage of the 335, and multiple swooping attack runs disallow slow, "walking" adjustment of fire by bomber turrets, and can deny a turn-fighter an opportunity to attack, and potentially significantly drain them of energy. Targets in a higher energy state (More altitude and/or speed) should not be engaged unless you can ensure that once you have followed through with the attack run, you will be moving fast enough to avoid retaliation by the target.

Made a problematic aircraft to master by its poor manoeuvrability, both anti-bomber operations and ground strafing are a challenging task in this aircraft; however, it does have bomb capacity for 1,000 kg of ordnance and considering its speed, it is moderately capable in the role of a medium or strategic bomber aircraft. Subsequently, the ability to disrupt soft (20 mm) and hard (30 mm) ground targets far away from the initial fighter onslaught does provide some redemption for its poor anti-aircraft capabilities.

The Do 335’s design flaws make it particularly inept at chasing other planes. It is nigh-impossible to try to aim while performing a dive since the nose dances around in all directions and provides no stability to the aiming reticle. Indeed, aiming at the enemy while climbing is prone to the same inaccuracy. Trying to roll the wings to enter a quick dive, e.g. to escape an approaching enemy, is more akin to turning a ship than a heavy fighter. During ground attacks, its inability to aim properly makes more of a “spray and pray” than an accurate firing platform. The most useful approach would be to dive on bombers and attempt to hit with the 30 mm cannon at a distance.

Counter-Tactics
The Do 335 is fast in a dive but flies like a brick. Out-turning it is easy in almost all aircraft it will face. Due to the centre-mounted cannons, it is best to avoid head-ons.

Pros:

* Excellent top speed at very high altitudes
* Great armament
* Great dive top speed
* Great roll rate
* Internal bomb bay for second payload drop

Cons:

* Bad acceleration
* Sub-par climb rate compared to other twin-engine fighters
* Sub-par top speed at sea level
* Tends to over-steer with mouse control on rudders and elevators, resulting in worse manoeuvrability overall as you either will have to turn more gently in order to avoid over-steering, or wait for the instructor to compensate
* Steering in a dive results in very poor accuracy.
* Alignment of the engines along the centre axis makes it extremely easy for either one or both to get damaged when attacked by enemy fighters and potentially set on fire
* Heavily reliant on it's 30 mm Mk 103 with limited ammo to do the damage dealing as the 15 mm MG 151's won't be able to suffice considering the aircraft's handling.
The name is a Rank rank British bomber 3. This aircraft was introduced in Update 1.59 "Flaming Arrows".

The Halifax is an interesting member of the British bomber line. It is the first true British heavy bomber, a big change from its predecessors, which are all either flying boats, medium, or light bombers. With the transition to heavy bombers, comes a change in tactics. The Halifax will out class almost every tier 2 and 3 bomber in terms of payload. It will also generally beat every same BR bomber in payload as well. However, being a heavy bomber has its draw backs. Compared to nearly all previous British bombers, this one is slower, and has a noticeably slow climb rate. While the payload upgrade is nice, the Halifax is not very durable. Worse, the Halifax lacks effective defensive weapons, a flaw of nearly all British bombers. The main priority, as a result, should be targeting bases, and avoiding opposing pilots as much as possible. Use high altitude and less direct travel routes to get to your targets. If you are engaged, your defensive guns can save you, but they are not very reliable. In addition, you have no ventral turret, leaving a massive defensive gap. If you can keep safe, and deliver your payload, you will find this to be a very effective bomber.
* Can carry an overwhelming 12,000 lb of bombs, giving it the heaviest payload at RanK II-III, and outclasses many Rank IV bombers
* (Realistic Battle) Full payload lets it take out all three bases in one pass with two 1,000 lb bombs to spare (first base : 6 x 500 lb + 1 x 1,000 lb / second base : 3 x 1,000 lb / third base : 3 x 1,000 lb / airfield : 2 x 1,000 lb.
* Fast and fairly manoeuvrable for a heavy bomber, with flaps that do not rip easily
* Performance is almost unaffected by payload options due to internal payload carriage that doesn't create drag
* Fantastic climb rate with WEP; can easily reach 6,000 m with full payload just by side climbing (which is heavily advised to minimize interception)
* Can fly with two engines if needed - or even one, if trying to land.
* Matchmaking typically places the bomber against planes less deadly than the ones later British bombers face
* Defensive armament is decent for a British bomber
* Tail gunner has a lot of ammunition (4 x 7.7 mm machine guns with 1,700 rounds per gun)
* Impressive aircraft overall in terms of bombers, arguably outclassing the succeeding Stirling in the next rank and can be a game changer for the team if left unchecked
* Economical plane to fly as an easy Silver Lion and Research Points grinder with an incredibly cheap repair cost

Cons:

* Large target
* Priority target (in Arcade battle) that smart players will aim for first
* Stock payload is useless for base bombing
* Nose is defended by a single 7.7 mm gun and the belly has no machine gun coverage, leaving them very vulnerable for enemy attacks
* 7.7 mm turrets are overall not very effective
* Only one pilot, no copilot like other bombers
* WEP causes overheating unless manual engine control is used to force radiators open
* Fragile structure compared to most competing bombers and previous British bombers
* Severe lack of armour for crew leaves them vulnerable
If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).-->

The G.55's main strong points come down to its engine power, its light construction and its wing profile, which grant it a high sustained rate of climb, a tight turning circle and the power output to endure sustained horizontal manoeuvring. It performs best up to medium altitudes around 5000m (16404 Feet), after which it is generally outperformed by its competition. Its light construction and its wing profile, however, mean that when the Centauro goes in the vertical, it bleeds speed very easily. Its top speed in a dive is unimpressive and it can barely catch up in a zoom climb with its competitors. The armament is very effective as well, however, the MG 151 is not very accurate at range, which should be taken into account when engaging in head-on passes.
* Exceptional low and mid-altitude performance
* Relatively robust airframe
* Good turn and roll rate

Cons:

* Lack of armour means the pilot is more prone to being knocked out in a head-on pass
* Roll and yaw are limited at high speeds
* Metal beams on canopy window obstruct first person view
break
The name is a rank rank British twin-engine fighter Battle-rating. This twin-engine fighter has been in the game since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.29. The Mosquito is researched after the Beaufighter Mk 21, requiring 70,000 RP and 230,000 SL to buy and further 65,000 SL to add a crew.

The Mosquito FB Mk VI is a heavy hitting fighter-bomber that can cover many roles in War Thunder as it could in real life, with the ability to equip bombs and rockets it can play a part of both the ground and air war, use its speed and fire-power to show your enemies who really rules the battlefield. With the instructions below you can make full use of the Mosquito and even squad up because as in the war, you can never have enough wooden wonders. The Mosquito then goes on to the excellent Tsetse (mk XVIII) with the 57 mm for an even better ground attacker. If you feel that you want to be like a real wooden wonder pilot give the pilot's manual a read.

It is profitable to set the compressor to 2nd position while not using WEP on low altitude in Realistic Battles. The engines will not overheat, but they will generate almost as much power as they do on 1st compressor's position with WEP. This will maximize motors' efficiency, especially because there is no need to use cooler and raise up drag.

Armament details

The Mosquito VI has a fixed forward mounted armament of four 7.7 mm Browning machine guns (500 rpg) and four 20 mm Hispano mk.2 (150 rpg) both with a variety of belts. For the machine guns, the universal belt is highly recommended it suits both ground attack and air combat although is only for the use of tracers in the latter. Use the machine guns for ranging and attacking light targets, don't waste the cannons on those. The cannons are specific to their role, so you may want to think about what you want to do before you spawn. In the ground attack role the "Ground attack" is the obvious ammo due to 60% of the ammo is armour piercing. This ammo can kill targets up to light tanks (attack from behind) and light pillboxes (window and door). For anti-air, the ammo of choice is air targets. This ammo makes light work of any aircraft but is stealth. With no tracers universal can also be used to get used to the Hispano's velocity and how to aim it. This is also why the universal ammo on the 7.7 mm's are useful as it allows you to adjust your aim while using air-targets.

The cannons are mounted under the nose and so will need more lead than wing mounted Hispanos, but the close grouping makes it far less affected by convergence. To use the cannons to kill armoured ground again go into the virtual cockpit to gain the best accuracy. For Tanks line up behind them at least 0.6 km away and low to the ground above the ground. Begin to fire at the target at about 0.4 km, by aiming for the top armour of tanks and the back of the turrets this will give you a higher chance of a kill. As for light pillboxes, these are stationary targets they will be easier to kill and so needs less setting up. Aim fro the back of the pillbox or the window at the front. Of course, you will need ground target ammo to penetrate the armour of both targets. Flaps should be deployed as they will help you elevate quicker and stop you from crashing into trees or buildings. The tactics and knowledge you build from this will then come in very useful when playing the Mk XVIII as it is an even better Ground attacker.

The 250 lb bombs are only useful if you are a skilled dive bomber pilot as most targets need a direct hit or both 250 lb bombs to kill it. The 500 lb is a better choice as it gives some leeway if the target is only slightly missed, They can also kill destroyers in one direct hit. To attack with bombs you want to line up with target +1 km out and change to the virtual cockpit. Dive on the target at 30 degrees or more with the steeper the dive the better. Release the bomb at +300 m above the target, this should give you enough time to pull out of the dive and not blow your self up. Bombs are recommended for pillboxes and stationary targets above all else. Rockets can be used both for anti-bomber as well as anti-ground. The rockets widely used against the 1.45 bomber spam and are still very useful, if slightly inaccurate. The rockets can also be used against destroyers and Pillboxes although you need 4 rockets to hit to kill them allowing you to two with each loadout. Note when attacking ships come at their broadside at around -30 degrees, this will give you the largest target.

Mosquito's manoeuvrability

The Mosquito is famed for its outstanding agility in the war, pilots often remarked it as being on par with fighters and nothing like what they had flown before. This was thanks to its light yet strong balsa and plywood frame while housing a pair of Rolls Royce Merlin engines.

In War Thunder, the manoeuvrability can seem far from the legend that surrounds it. Stock it is heavy and somewhat lumber some fighter that relies on slow-moving enemies to target. However, as the upgrades are unlocked and installed it slowly comes out of its shell to start being the plane so many grew up wanting to fly. The roll rate of the Mosquito is quite underwhelming as sometimes expected from such a large aircraft with is being best at around 240 miles per hour. The upside is that in the roll, the Mosquito has only a small wobble and so will allow for some well-aimed shots. The horizontal turn on the Mosquito is again not that impressive as one might expect but it is not a brick with wings either. it has a mediocre turn radius in the flat and can turn with and inside other heavy fighters excluding the Japanese ones. It will undoubtedly not be able to out turn all it's single engine opponents though with the Fw 190 being the exception in a sustained turn. Finally, the vertical manoeuvrability is decent and the Mosquito will only lose a small bit of altitude in a loop with combat flaps deployed. However, there is one upside. In simulator battles, the Mosquito is not under the control of the instructor and there is an improvement in its performance. This allows it to be better in the fighter role than in RB if it were in the same match up.

There is some controversy over the Mosquito though. Many players argue that the MK.VI should be more manoeuvrable than it actually is and this is probably down to two things. Firstly the flight model maybe inaccurate in the respective area causing it not to perform as well, but the most likely reason for the performance is the large fuel minimum. At 1 hour it has a large effect on what the plane can do. This is a little less than double that of similar planes that have 45 minutes of fuel.
Usage in the battles
A Mosquito can be very deadly if dealt with wrong, but just remember a few simple things about it and you'll be able to attack it with little problems. Note this is mostly for RB/SB

Firstly what not to do.

Never head-on attack one. The firepower will kill you due to the nose-mounted cannons and the Hispanos doing a high amount of damage, even Fw 190's should stay away from this. Also, like the first try not to overshoot and fly in front of it, the cannons can still get you from far out.

Now how to attack one.

You will most likely be in a prop that is faster and more manoeuvrable and uses this. If one is coming from behind, do a Split-S and role under it. The average roll rate on the Mosquito (especially at higher speeds) will make it so the guns have less chance of hitting you. You should also be able to out turn the Mosquito unless you are in an Fw 190 or a 109 with gun pods. Use this to get on it's 6 or if you need to, dive away (it's red-line begins at 401 mph). If you chose to fight the Mosquito use manoeuvres that will exploit its sluggish controls.

As the Mosquito was made from wood it can take some beating before going down. If you are tailing the enemy aircraft, then aim for the engines, they are easily damaged and the fire will spread due to the fuel tanks being in close proximity and spanning both wings also it's wood. Keep your energy while fighting it by using vertical manoeuvres as then it won't be able to engage you. If there is a squad of mosquitoes then don't underestimate their ability and only attack when you know you can.
* To pursue the Fighter role then do this:

Firstly unlock the ammo belt for the cannons (as can see each belt below). This will unlock the air targets/Universal belts significantly improving the firepower. Next, go for the "Radiator" module, this will improve the WEP capabilities and +4 Miles per hour. The third should be the "Fuselage repair" further increasing the performance and this will also unlock tier 2. Immediately go for the "Compressor". It gives a solid boost to all the performance abilities in both speed and manoeuvrability. Following this, the cannon upgrades should be next to give more accuracy and ability to fire longer burst (More useful in AB). As two modifications are only needed in this tier, tier 3 will now be unlocked. "New engines" should be unlocked before the "Wing repairs". This will give more horsepower and a better climb rate with wing repairs coming after. Access to tier 4 is now achieved and without a doubt, the next modification should be the "engine injection". This will give the biggest increase in all performance areas with up to 34 miles per hour, +13.9 climb rate and -2.8 turn time. the "Cover" should come next. Now all the tiers are unlocked revert back can go back to the Airframe to unlock it further increasing the durability and lightening the plane. Now focus on the Cannons to get the 1943 Mk.II Hispano. Now work on the pylons to gain access to the rockets, these are useful against bombers and will also give the Mosquito ground attack versatility. Finally, upgrade the 7.7 mm machine guns thus Acing/ "Spading" the Mosquito.
Ammo belts -> Radiator -> Fuselage repair -> Compressor -> New 20 mm cannons -> Engines -> Wing repair -> Engine injection -> Cover -> Airframe -> Year 1942 cannons -> Year 1943 cannons -> SBC pylon (250 lb) -> MBC pylon (500 lb) RSC pylon (rockets) -> Offensive 7 mm belts -> New 7 mm MGs

* To pursue as a Ground attacker then follow this:

Like the fighter firstly get the 20 mm cannon belts. This gives the Ground targets belt that can be used against light pillboxes and medium tanks. Next, go for the radiator as it gives a better upgrade than the Fuselage repair and gives the engines more WEP time. Now get the SBC mk.II pylons to unlock the 250 lb bombs, although these bombs are useless they will Unlock tier 2 and give access to the 500 lb bombs. The compressor should be researched before the MBC pylon to make it easier to get about with the 500 lb bombs are obviously next and so is tier 3. Before researching tier 3, research the New 20 mm cannons to make it easier to hit targets. Now unlock the new engines for more speed and manoeuvrability and Rockets after that. With tier 4 unlocked prioritize the Engine injection as it is the most valuable upgrade and Cover after that. Now go back to the Airframe as it will make the Mosquito more durable and wings repair after that will give better performance overall. As the down to the last few upgrades, unlock both remaining cannon upgrades to give better accuracy in firing. Finally, research the Fuselage repair then the 7.7 mm's to finish the Mosquito grind.
20 mm cannon belts -> Radiator -> SBC pylon (250 lb) -> Compressor -> MBC pylon (500 lb) -> New 20 mm cannons -> Engines -> RSC pylon (Rockets) -> Engine injection -> Cover -> Airframe -> Wing repair -> Year 1942 cannons -> Year 1943 cannons -> Fuselage repair -> 7 mm MG ammo belts -> New 7 mm MG's

Pros:

* Extremely good manoeuvrability for a twin-engine fighter
* Four nose-mounted cannons
* Good amount of ammunition
* Stable gun platform
* Usable payload
* Can have a large impact on the ground battle
* Cockpit has good visibility
* Out turns numerous twin-engine aircraft
* Large benefit to turning offered by combat flaps
* The four Browning machine guns allow you to stay in combat with some effectiveness after the cannon ammo is expended

Cons:

* Large default fuel load
* Slower then would be expected, given how it's often represented in history books
* Large Engines are prone to damage
* Wooden airframe can't take as much damage as other twin-engine fighters
* Copilot/navigator appears to not count in damage model, so losing the front pilot will make you lose the plane
* Flaps appear to tear at lower speeds than that of most other aircraft
* As with all British aircraft, cannons overheat easily
Development
The Mosquito began life in a more than a shaky start. In 1936 the Ministry issued Specification P.13/36 that stated a twin-engine bomber that could carry a payload of 3,000 lb for 3,000 miles while having a maximum speed of 275 miles per hour. It was also stated that it should also carry 8,000 lb at shorter ranges. Geoffrey De Havilland sent a letter to an Air ministry council member Air Marshal Wilfrid Freeman stating that a high-speed bomber could be made out of wood and powered by RR Merlin engines as there would be a shortage of strategic metals in a war. However, Freeman replied that it would fall short of the specification by either bomb load or speed both of which were important.

De Haviland believed that the adjustment was too large and that he should design the new bomber with no unneeded equipment. He began to base his new design on the DH. Albatross airliner. He would add a tail turret and around two manual guns to the design and replace the power plants with Merlin X engines. There would be a crew of 3 and a top speed of 300 mph. Although De Havilland still believed the design could be improved more and looked at other designs based on the albatross.

The new design would be more aerodynamic, wooden and powered by the Merlin engine. He also wanted to remove any gun turrets to make less weight and manufacturing easier. It would also be manoeuvrable to make it easy to avoid fighters and future fighters. However, the design was the opposite of the Air Ministry's current ideology and so little interest was shown. By the 4th of October 1939, the design had become a fast twin-engine light bomber and had moved to the secure location of Salisbury Hall for further work. However, the design was still too radical for the Air Ministry. The outbreak of war made the now DH. 98 a bit more attractive but the lack of defensive armament still made the Air Ministry cautious of the design. A small remote-controlled turret was added at the back of the cockpit to please the Ministry. On the 12th of November, a meeting between the Air Ministry and the aircraft companies De Havilland showed that his design could reach 500 miles per hour and so was able to drop the requirement for a turret.

A month later the Vice-Chief of the Air Staff, Director General of Research and Development, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of RAF Bomber Command had a meeting to see where the DH.98 could fit into RAF service. the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of RAF Bomber Command refused the design for a fast bomber but instead believed it would fit in as a photo reconnaissance aircraft. On the first of January, the DH.98 received backing after a mock-up was inspected resulting in an order of a prototype. Two months later in March 50 bomber reconnaissance variants were ordered and the May specification of F.21/40 resulted in the cannon-armed fighter variant. The fighter variant kept the mosquito alive due to its performance numbing the criticism from the government and Air Ministry even after it had shown its performance.

Operational duties of the Mk.VI
The Mosquito VI was the most mass-produced variant with 2,298 being the final score. The VI was one of Britain's primary attack aircraft and so gained fame in its low-level bombing missions against Axis forces, pilots often told of the mosquito having almost "fight like agility" and the ability to even take on single engine fighters if needed (as some Fw 190's from Jagdgeschwader 5 found out). Its main weapon was it's speed topping out at 384 mph allowing it to do high-speed hit and run attacks with little chance of being caught.
The First Mosquito VI was developed from the Mk.II, a fighter variant. As the Cannons only took up the front half of the bomb bay the rear half could be was refitted with bomb racks to hold two 250 lb or 500 lb bombs. It also had the ability to carry 8 x 60 lb rockets with 4 per wing. The first prototype flew on the first of June 1941 powered by two 1,460 hp Merlin 21's, this was then upgraded to Merlin 25's with an output of 1,635. The prototype however performed under it's expected speed only reaching 368 mph when the aircraft was fitted with "saxophone" exhausts. Stub exhausts were then fitted and a retest found the performance boot to 384 mph bringing the performance back to the expected figures. The series II modification allowed two 250 lb/500 lb bombs or fuel tanks.

The Mk. VI was used as the RAF's primary strike aircraft with the ability to attack targets with the accuracy that could never be achieved by the four-engine heavy bombers. It's speed allowed it to make fast runs into occupied Europe, attack a target and return with little chance of being intercepted. The speed even made it viable for daylight runs with low loss rates that would be impossible for four-engine bombers too. It served with many squadrons including the famed 617 "Dambusters" and other air forces around the world in and after the war. It also had a life of being a pathfinder by reaching the target before the heavy bombers did and dropping incendiary bombs on the target that could then be seen the Bombardier to aim for. The wooden profile also made it hard to detect on German radar thus improving its survival rate. The VI was also employed as a night fighter to intercept landing bombers and even enemy night fighters. The Mosquito gain its fame and legendary status with its very high survival rate, versatility and it's famous daring low-level bombing

The Mosquito had many famous exploits as depicted in post-war films, with some better than others. The two most famous ones featuring the VI were Operation Jericho and interrupting old Goering. Operation Jericho was the RAF's attempt at bombing Amiens Prison in early 1944 and was one of the most daring attacks although it's often questioned if the attack was needed. In the attack, the bombs hit the guard's barrack as well as breaching the Prison's walls however this did come at a cost. 102 prisoners were killed with a further 74 injured. However, 258 escaped of whom 78 were resistance or political prisoners but around 182 of these were later captured. in the attack out of the 9 Mosquito's 3 were shot down with 3 crew KIA and three taken prisoner. Of the three KIA one was the commander Group Captain Percy Charles "Pick" Pickard (DSO & Two Bars, DFC) and his navigator. The Raid was highly criticized and the reason for the raid or the objective for it has never been found

The Mosquito also lived up to its name by being a nuisance to none other than Herman Goering. On the 31st of January 1943, Goering proudly proclaimed that no enemy aircraft will bomb Berlin however during his speech to a large parade he was cut off when a squadron of mosquito's bombed the broadcasting station interrupting the speech.

The Mosquito ended its career with many nicknames including "Mossie", "Termite's dream", "the timber terror" and most famously "The wooden wonder". However, the one that probably suited it most was "All things to all men". This encapsulates the mosquito's effect of not only being adored by its pilots and crew but the admiration the British public gave it from its ability to be such a morale-boosting plane. To be honest the best quote ever said about the mosquito came from none other than Goering himself "In 1940 I could at least fly as far as Glasgow in most of my aircraft, but not now! It makes me furious when I see the Mosquito. I turn green and yellow with envy. The British, who can afford aluminium better than we can, knock together a beautiful wooden aircraft that every piano factory over there is building, and they give it a speed which they have now increased yet again. What do you make of that? There is nothing the British do not have. They have the geniuses and we have the nincompoops. After the war is over I'm going to buy a British radio set - then at least I'll own something that has always worked."

In-game description
"A twin engine monoplane which entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1941, the de Havilland Mosquito was originally conceived as a high speed bomber/reconnaissance aircraft whose performance would be so outstanding that defensive armament was not required. When its plans were originally drawn up in the autumn of 1938, a second alarming feature was conceived – to save materials for other war machines, the Mosquito would be made of largely of wood. This concept was perhaps too advanced for the British Air Ministry, and it was not until after the beginning of the Second World War that de Havilland’s plans were seriously considered. The prototype first flew in November 1940, and shortly after astounded any sceptics by demonstrating a top speed of just under 400 mph and an exceptional manoeuvrability for its size.

The first Mosquito to enter service, the PR Mk I, was a photographic reconnaissance aircraft which, like the original plans, was unarmed. On its first operational sortie over occupied France, it easily outran three Messerschmitt 109s. The second major production variant was the B Mk IV, a bomber with the range to reach Berlin.
For the first major fighter-bomber variant, the Mosquito FB Mk VI, the airframe was based on the F Mk II and first flew on June 1st 1942.

The first series of Mosquito FB Mk VI Srs.1 aircraft (300 in number) were equipped with a liquid cooled engine, the Rolls Royce Merlin Mk21, Mk23, or later the Mk25. The aircraft were armed with four fuselage-mounted 20mm British-Hispano Mk II cannons and four 0.303 inch Colt-Browning Mk II machine guns. In addition, the aircraft inherited the F Mk II's capacity for carrying two 250 lb (113 kg) bombs on underwing pylons. The internal bomb bay was completely filled with the aircraft’s weaponry and an extra fuel tank.

The FB Mk VI Srs.2, the second production series, was fitted with the Merlin Mk 25 engine, guaranteeing the best possible performance characteristics at low and medium altitude. The internal fuel tank was removed so that the aircraft could carry 250 lb bombs in its internal bomb bay, plus two 250 or 500 lb (227 kg) bombs carried externally. A further option was to mount extra fuel tanks under the wings instead of bombs, carrying 50, 100, or 200 gallon (227.3, 454.6, or 909.2 litres) of fuel, or eight 25 or 60 lb rockets. The aircraft's cannons and machine guns remained unchanged.

The FB Mk VI first saw combat on October 3rd 1943. The aircraft was widely used in the precision strike role against especially important targets. From 1944 on, the FB Mk VI was used by the RAF Coastal Command and saw action over the Bay of Biscay, the North Sea, the English Channel, and over the rivers of France, Belgium, and Germany.

The FB Mk VI was the most widely produced of all Mosquito variants during the war; factories managed to produce 2,584 aircraft. All in all, 6,710 Mosquitoes (from all series) were manufactured. According to General Bennett, the only drawback the ‘wooden wonder’ had was that there were never enough of them. After a hugely successful wartime career, the Mosquito continued to serve with several nations well into the 1950s."
The name is a Rank rank British strike fighter 1. It was introduced in Update 1.51 "Cold Steel".

The Firebrand can be considered as a British P-47. With extremely heavy armament as well as a respectable secondary load, the Firebrand is foremost a striker aircraft, then a fighter. Carrying 4 fast-firing and high-capacity Hispano Mk.5 cannons, the Firebrand Mk IV can rip through all aircraft at its BR and all "soft" ground targets with ease. The torpedo options allow anti-ship capabilities, and conventional bombs effectively destroy ground targets.
Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).-->
In arcade battle, the Firebrand can actually excel. There are no speed limits or breakage and performance is exaggerated.
Thus, the Firebrand can be used somewhat effectively as a fighter. Turning and handling are both still poor performers with this aircraft compared with realistic battle while climb rate is significantly increased.

Boom & Run is a good tactic in arcade battle. Due to terrible handling characteristics, simply diving and flying flat is a good defensive tactic.

As a striker, the Firebrand can be extremely effective as well. Diving at an insane speed at targets is a good tactic, as its wings cannot rip and the Firebrand possesses amazing top speed and dive acceleration. Make sure to pull up quite soon, however, as handling is very poor.

Due to unlimited ammunition, the cannons are remarkably effective in arcade battle.

When using the Firebrand as a striker, it is recommended to side climb at the beginning of the match. Perform a shallow dive until you reach the target, as speed will accumulate rapidly and the evasion of ground fire and enemy aircraft will be far easier. Plan ahead when striking your target - don't begin diving until you have approximated where the target may be once you reach it (say a destroyer or convoy), as turning to attack a target at high speed may rip the Firebrand's wings or slow you down significantly - resulting in easy prey for other fighters.

As a fighter, the Firebrand is more lackluster. It possesses very poor handling capabilities, and manoeuvring is very sluggish. Partially due to wing-loading and weight, the Firebrand does, surprisingly, have a small turn radius and turns quite quickly, similar to the Me-410. However, turning with the Firebrand is not recommended - turning will severely bleed energy, enough to make you an eventual sitting duck.

High altitude performance as well as zoom climbing is extremely poor due to the lack of engine injection or throttle. Roll rate is poor as well, and the Firebrand is a massive target, compared to smaller and nimbler fighters such as the Bf-109. However, energy retention as well as level-flight speed is excellent. Using Boom & Run is recommended when using the Firebrand as a fighter, and using the Firebrand as a bomber hunter is also a good idea.

Always avoid fur balls with superior turning fighters, which includes almost all single-engine fighters at 4.3-5.3. In general, tactics for the Firebrand also apply for the Me-410, and vice versa.

Unlike realistic battle, simulator battles requires use of the cockpit, and first-person view with the Firebrand is actually quite decent. It has quite a good view due to its decent bubble canopy. Unfortunately, due to the size of the cowling and wings, there are many blind spots around the plane.

Thus, the Firebrand offers good visibility for its battle rating level in simulator battles.
* Small turn radius
* Good durability
* Decent level speed
* Good secondary payload
* Torpedo options

Cons:

* Poor manoeuvrability and handling in general- roll rate, turn rate, etc. are very poor
* Large target
* Mediocre climb rate
* Poor high-altitude performance
* Controls unresponsive as speeds near 400 mph
* Mediocre energy retention
* Lacks any bomb load stock
break
The name is a rank rank British fighter Battle-rating. This fighter has been in the game since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.29.

The Spitfire F Mk XVI is a very unique plane with an awkwardly unique role and design. Virtually identical to the Spitfire LF Mk.IX, aside from the clipped wings and bubble cockpit, the Mk XVI combines the low-altitude capabilities of the aforementioned fighter with the fantastic roll, dive, and speed capabilities of the German Focke-Wulfe 190 series.

The Mk XVI possesses all the characteristics of the LF Mk. IX regarding armament and performance at low-altitude. Low-altitude climb acceleration is fantastic, the climb rate is very good, and armament is extremely effective. The main distinguishing feature of the XVI is its clipped wings. These wings give the Mk XVI some distinct advantages- a great roll rate and amazing dive and level speed and acceleration. The roll rate makes evasion a very easy task- rolling manoeuvres can easily evade most tail-end attacks by any fighter in the 4.5-5.5 BR range. Even more, the clipped wings of the XVI provide for very good low-altitude speed and acceleration performance- this fighter climbs like a rocket and dives like a hornet below 1500 m.

However, the clipped wings can provide some significant disadvantages to flying, as well. Compared to similar Merlin Spitfires the turn rate is far worse, higher-altitude performance is abysmal, and climb performance is worse, though marginally.

Weaponry is standard, except for the 2 x Browning M2 12.7 mm HMGs that replace the standard 4 x Browning .303 machine guns. As a matter of fact, the two M2s provide a significant increase in firepower. When equipped with Omni or Stealth they provide excellent "soft" ground target dispatching performance while proving effective as a last-ditch weapon. As with most of the Spitfire line, the XVI possesses 2 x Hispano-Suiza Mk.II 20 mm cannons which are highly effective against most fighters, especially when utilizing the "Air Targets" belt.

Thus, the Spit F Mk. XVI is not a suitable Boom & Zoom nor high-altitude fighter; it works best as a low-altitude fighter-bomber that can effectively take out ground targets while providing good fighter cover. Boom and Run is by far the best-recommended tactic.

Pros:

* Good climb speed, albeit lower than non-clipped wing variants
* New M2 HMGs are far more effective than the Browning .303s
* Great roll rate
* Good guns
* Great dive acceleration
* Better dive speed than other Merlin Spitfires
* Better turning that most of its German and American counterparts
* Ability to mount bombs for a decent late-game ground attack option
* Slightly better simulator visibility due to its bubble cockpit
* Stock parts are not as bad as some other T4-5 planes, such as the P-51D-5, Ki-84 and Late Bf109s

Cons:

* Worse turning than all other Merlin Spitfires
* Worse dive speed than its German and American counterparts
* Poor performance at altitude
* Relatively low rip speed (650 kph)
* The RAF M2 HMGs are not as good as their American counterpart, the M2 Early/Late
In-game description
"The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-engine, all-metal, low-wing monoplane fighter. Various modifications served as fighters, interceptors, high-altitude fighters, fighter-bombers and reconnaissance aircraft.

The Mk XVI variant was very similar to the Mk IX; however, it was powered by a US-manufactured Packard Merlin 266 engine. A total of 1,054 Spitfires of this variant were produced. All production variants had the distinguishing feature of low-altitude clipped wings and a cut down rear fuselage and bubble canopy for increased visibility. The clipped wings increased the roll rate and top speed due to a reduction in drag, but sacrificed some of the fighter’s rate of climb. This, coupled with an engine optimised for efficiency in denser air made the Mk XVI ideally suited to combat at lower altitudes."
The name is a rank rank British fighter Battle-rating It was introduced in Update 1.49 "Weapons of Victory".

Unlike the previous Seafire XVII which is a low altitude fighter, the Seafire FR 47 has excellent high altitude performance, and you will perform most competitively above 6-7 km. It is good for engaging other fighters and bombers up to 12 km due to a 2nd supercharger gear that peaks in power at 8.4 km.

It has has a rather versatile selection of secondary armaments. You can take two 250 lb bombs or two 500 lb bombs. The latter is usually better for attacking ships while the former is preferred for player controlled ground vehicles and for pillboxes. The fact that you can carry rockets is even better. You have a choice of either 4 x RP-3 rockets or 8 x RP-3 rockets. It is more advisable to take 8 x rockets as having only 4 will means both your salvos have to be dead-on the target. This isn't helped by the fact that rockets utilized are woefully inaccurate. When strafing a group of AI light tanks, it is at this point when utilizing 4 rockets make a bit more sense as you are almost guaranteed to take out some of the AI vehicles. If in a mixed RB battle, you should probably not even be carrying rockets and should just stick with bombs, however, if you are attacking vehicles with exposed crew members like the 8.8 cm Flak 37 you can benefit a bit more by using the rockets.

Pros:

* Good high altitude performance
* Neutral torque, so cruising is relaxing for the joystick and aiming isn't difficult
* Hispano Mk V cannons means a high rate of fire and high muzzle velocity
* Can land on carriers
* Fast acceleration when diving
* Low silver lion repair fee
* Good top speed for its rank

Cons:

* High stall speed and hence, bricky in its turn (even Bf 109 K-4s on equal speed can out-turn the FR 47)
* Abysmal climb rate at slow speed (Try zoom climbing once you reach about 400 kph), but competitive when fully researched
* Very weak engine when not upgraded
* Play style is completely different than the other Spitfires

In-game description
The last and ultimate incarnation in the life of the legendary Spitfire series, the Seafire F Mk.47 which entered service in 1948 was so different from the Spitfire Mk.I that it was barely recognizable. Now fully navalised after the previous Griffon Seafires’ fixed wings, the F Mk.47 was fitted with folding wings and a new Rolls-Royce Griffon 88 which generated 2350 hp at 1250 feet and, fitted with a two-stage two-speed supercharger and petrol injection system, giving a steady flow of fuel under all conditions of accelerated ‘g’. The fastest of all Seafires, the F Mk.47 was capable of reaching over 430 mph at some 24,000 feet.

Compared to other contemporary Royal Navy fighters, the Seafire F Mk.47 was faster in the dive and possessed a greater rate of climb above 25,000 feet than the Sea Fury, the Sea Hornet and, incredibly, the jet powered Sea Vampire. The Seafire could also out roll its contemporaries and was beaten in the turn itself only by the Sea Fury. The contra-rotating propellers which had been introduced on the Seafire F Mk.46 were retained, leading to far greater ease of control input in take off, landing and weapons firing due to the near elimination of torque effect with power changes.

Further modifications included the Spiteful-pattern enlarged fin and rudder, an altered forward fuselage profile and repositioning of the ram-air supercharger intake. Strengthening of the wings allowed a 500 lb bomb to be carried beneath each wing, theoretically allowing the aircraft to carry three 500 lb bombs when also adding a third beneath the fuselage. As with all late marque Seafires, rockets could also be carried. Air-to-air armament consisted of for 20mm Hispano cannon.

Whilst the Seafire F Mk.47 was praised for its control response, handling and deck landing characteristics, it was criticized for its cramped cockpit, uncomfortable seating position, awkward control positioning and lack of modern features such as a properly heated cockpit.

Whilst the Seafire F Mk.47 was one of the greatest piston engine fighters ever produced, it was unfortunately a fighter out of its time period. Advances in jet aircraft meant that piston fighters were finding themselves outclassed more and more with each passing year, and the Seafire F Mk.47 was no exception.

The F Mk.47 first entered service with 804 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Ford in January 1948. 90 Seafire F Mk.47s were produced, and first saw action in ground attack sorties against bandits in Malaya in October 1949. 800 NAS embarked aboard HMS Triumph were amongst the first aircraft to take part in the Korean War, taking part in their first offensive sorties in July 1950.
The name is a rank rank British fighter Battle-rating. It was introduced in Update 1.49 "Weapons of Victory".

Situated at the end of Rank IV, the aircraft sports a powerful engine, high speeds, good rate of climb, surprising agility as well as a wide track undercarriage for easier carrier recovery by comparison to its Seafire predecessors. Pilots who are familiar with the Hawker Tempest series within the British tree will be able to quickly master the Sea Fury. Indeed it inherits the excellent Bristol Centaurus radial engine as well as the sleek wing shape sporting a hard-hitting cannon arrangement from the Hawker Tempest II. The Sea Fury has 4 x 20 mm Hispano Mk V cannons with a total 580 maximum ammunition capacity. This extremely generous cannon load is further complemented by invested research into the “Offensive 20 mm belts” that offers the “Air Targets” configuration. This is a highly efficient and effective choice for air-to-air engagements and ensures the maximum potential out of your ammunition supply in dogfights. As well as this, the Sea Fury also has a range of external stores available after unlocking the appropriate modifications 250 lb or 500 lb bombs as well as RP-3 rockets which can be mounted on hardpoints under the wing, allowing the aircraft to remain flexible in a variety of situations and fulfil its role as a fighter-bomber.

Much like its other Hawker brethren, the Sea Fury is very dependent on energy, but also still quite manoeuvrable. Most aircraft that it cannot beat in a turn fighting situation, it can simply out-dive and vice versa. This will, of course, require knowledge and understanding of your opponent and constant situational awareness to review the situation and act accordingly. Due to its high performance as one of the final production propeller-driven aircraft, the Sea Fury will often face the very best in piston engine aircraft as well as the early generation of jet aircraft. However, its combined all-around characteristics, particularly when further enhanced with researched upgrades, will be more than sufficient to engage almost any opposition the aircraft will come into contact with.

The Sea Fury was the result of Hawkers development of the original Fury biplane fighter, through to the Hurricane, Typhoon and Tempest finally culminating in the second design to be known as the "Fury". Experience with the Tempest and also through research of the Fw 190 lead to a lightweight version of the already successful Tempest II fighter. However, in an age when the skies were quickly being filled with Jet powered aircraft, the Royal Air Force turned down the Hawker Fury as they already have surplus Tempests and were beginning to receive their first jet aircraft. The Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, however, was much more welcoming of a carrier-borne version of the Fury due to the foreseen complications of operating early jet aircraft from Aircraft Carriers. With some Modification to meet Royal Navy specifications, the last and most powerful in the line of British piston engine aircraft was born.

Whilst the Sea Fury was too late to see service within the Second World War, it made its impact on the opening stages of the Korean war with great distinction. Initially escorting Fairy Firefly Mk V's and USAF aircraft like the B-29 Superfortress, the Sea Fury soon found its self on secondary roles due to the ever-increasing threat of the MiG-15 now in the hands of Chinese and North Korean pilots. Despite this, on the 9th August 1952, a flight from No.802 Squadron were en route to a ground attack sortie when they were bounced by MiG-15 fighters. Peter Carmichael, flying Hawker Sea Fury WJ232 (Coded 114), damaged one of the Jet fighters in a head-on attack with the first and only Air-to-Air kill for the Sea Fury in the Korean War. The feat showed the remarkable potential of the aircraft, even when faced with vastly superior opposition and secured its place in the rapidly developing history of aviation.

Other nations to operate the Sea Fury include Canada, Pakistan, Cuba, Netherlands, Iraq, Australia, Germany, Burma and Egypt. Whilst the majority built were of the Fighter or Fighter bomber versions, the two seat and two-seat trainer versions were also popular on the export market, with the Hawker Sea Fury T 20 being the best example of the two-seat variant. Even after its operational service ended, the Sea Fury is still a popular racing aircraft among pilots, particularly at the Chino Air Races. Several museums, air forces and private collections house and operate examples of the Sea Fury, with the best example of this being the Royal Navy Historic Flight who have operated multiple Sea Fury's since the type's retirement.

In-game description
The Hawker Sea Fury was the last piston engined fighter in front line service with the Fleet Air Arm and, according to many critics, the greatest piston engined fighter in history. However, as with its contemporary – the Seafire F Mk.47 – it was a fighter out of time; it may have been one of the greatest fighters of its type but it was propeller driven in a jet age, and competition was slim as many air forces had already moved on to jet fighters.

The Hawker Fury (the second Hawker fighter to be so named) was originally designed as a lighter weight replacement for the superlative Hawker Tempest, although Sydney Camm’s team also began work on a maritime version for the Fleet Air Arm. With the end of the war in sight and a smaller requirement for fighter aircraft for the RAF – coupled with a growing interest in jet aviation – the RAF cancelled its orders for the Fury before they were even in front line service. However, with a long list of complications with operating jets from aircraft carriers still to be overcome, the Fleet Air Arm continued to pursue the naval variant: the Sea Fury.

Powered by a 2480 hp Bristol Centaurus, the Sea Fury was capable of some 460 mph at 18000 feet, a rate of climb of 4600 feet per minute, and possessed an agility and balance of control which made it popular with pilots. After some initial problems with deck landing trials, the Sea Fury Mk.10 entered front line service with 807 Naval Air Squadron at Eglinton in September 1947. Hydraulically folded wings and greater ground attack capabilities were incorporated into the definitive variant – the Sea Fury FB Mk.XI, of which 615 aircraft were produced.

The Sea Fury operated with great success during the Korean War, flying from the carriers HMS Ocean, Theseus, Glory and Sydney. The Sea Fury was mainly employed in ground attack duties, artillery spotting and combat air patrols, but achieved immortality during the conflict when a MiG-15 was shot down by a Sea Fury of 802 Naval Air Squadron in August 1952. The kill is officially credited to the squadron’s Senior Pilot, Lieutenant Peter ‘Hoagy’ Carmichael, although controversy and counter claims exist to this day.

The Sea Fury also served with the militaries of Canada, Australia, Burma, Pakistan, the Netherlands and Cuba. It was Britain’s last piston engine fighter but lives on to this day as an air racer in several guises across the globe.

In AB and RB, you should immediately bomber hunt, as those will be your easiest kills, combined with your bomber altitude, you should stay high until you run out of targets to engage then you should go for injured fighters and ground targets. When diving, use your airbrakes to be sure not to exceed your maximum speed in a dive.

How to offensively Engage an enemy aircraft:

The first thing you should do is head on. Your four Hispano guns will completely obliterate any aircraft from the front with a 3-second burst. In your head on you should open fire as far out as you feel comfortable, then turn out immediately after you hit him, as you don't want him to change direction until after your volley hits home.

How to perform defensive fighting:

Should an enemy get on your six, your best bet is to bolt towards allied fighters/airfield and give the enemy a hard time aiming at you. While moving in the same general direction, dart your nose around and play with the roll, rudder and rise, if you are lucky he'll either overshoot, run out of ammo, or get shot down. Under no circumstance should you ever turn fight anything smaller than a medium bomber, otherwise you will bleed off your speed or the attacker will out turn you and acquire a firing solution.
Pros:

* Great armament of four nose-mounted Hispano V's
* Bomber spawn (AB and RB)
* Decently manoeuvrable for an aircraft of its size, especially with combat flaps
* Plenty of ammo
* Good attack payloads of 2,000 lbs or 16 RP-3 Rockets, even mixed
* Very good cockpit visibility
* Heavy armour on the nose of aircraft for head-ons
* Good diver
* Air brakes that provide lift upon usage

Cons:

* Generally slow
* Average climb rate
* Massive target
* No defensive gunners on the aircraft
* Air brakes lack performance under 600 km/h
* Early bomb modifications are mounted far on the wings, making them hard to aim
* Bad roll rate
* Poor performance at high altitude
Designed to replace the famous Bristol Beaufighter series, The Bristol Type 164 "Brigand" was based on the already in production Bristol Buckingham, a transport/liaison aircraft intended to have been a medium bomber like the [[Wellington Mk III][Wellington]. Because of this, the Brigand was substantially larger than it's predecessor and its performance suffered in suite. Originally conceived as a fast torpedo attacker, the Brigand turned out to be a heavy strike bomber, and only the first eleven airframes were never torpedo capable.

The Brigand B.1 as we see in-game would first see service with No. 84 and No. 8 Sqn RAF in Aden, modern-day Yemen. while not seeing action, the dry hot Climate of the Arabian peninsula was ideal for the Brigand and production continued. The Brigand would next be handed over to the Beaufighter squadron No. 45 based out of Tengah, Singapore in engaging Communist Guerillas in and around Malaya (Modern day Malaysia). It was here where the Brigand would receive its trial of fire, bombing and rocketing swathes of the South-East Asian Jungles on the hunt for this red menace (sound familiar?). However, the Humid climate and constant stress from Dive bombing would be the death sentence for this aircraft. The Leather and Rubber seals used on the hydraulic jacks of the landing gear and dive brakes rotted away, causing gear failures and some dive brakes failing, leading to crashes and wing tearing. This combined with the Brigand's wings being unable to cope with the constant dive-bombing led to it being withdrawn from service in Malaya by 1952, and from Aden by 1954.
For pilots who loved the Mosquito, the Hornet is a dream come true.

As a descendant of the Mosquito FB Mk VI, it maintains many similarities to its older brother, namely an all-wooden construction and the iconic de Havilland tail design. However, the Hornet somehow managed to improve on the already excellent Mosquito platform, increasing speed, manoeuvrability and armament while reducing overall aircraft proportions. From takeoff and into its flight, the Hornet is an overall smooth operator with brutal speed and excellent manoeuvrability, especially for a twin-engined fighter. However, it's still a twin-engined fighter which means it can still be outmanoeuvred by most single-engined opponents which it faces, namely Bf 109's and most Italian fighter aircraft.

Being a descendant of the legendary Mosquito, one should expect a similar playstyle with the Hornet. However, due to the vastly improved performance, the aircraft can perform amicably in most situations it is thrown in.

Fighter: The Hornet does very well in a dogfighting situation for a heavy fighter. It can use its powerful quad Hispano Mk.V's to shred any fighter which falls within its gun sights. However, one should take note that most single-engined fighters will turn circles around the Hornet, so turn-fighting should be avoided where possible. Naturally, there are some exceptions to this rule such as the P-47N-15, which you cannot match the Hornet's turn time.

High speed and great climb rate coupled with its amazing armament make the Hornet an extremely potent user of the Boom & Zoom fighting doctrine. Always attempt to maintain an energy and altitude advantage versus the enemy aircraft and avoid tunnel vision which means, be aware of the aircraft around you. Tunnel vision prevents you from seeing an enemy aircraft get the drop on you until its too late and either tracer fire is whizzing past or the Hornet's engine is on fire.

Ground Attacker: When aced, the Hornet can load 4 AP or RP-3 rockets and two 1,000 lb bombs. This, combined with the performance of the Hornet and power of the Hispano's allow it to be an amazing ground attacker that can shred any ground target in sight. The AP rockets are your best bet when it comes to ground attack, as they are more accurate than the RP-3's, fly faster and due to the higher speed, impact harder and penetrate more armour. However, when destroying light targets, the RP-3's are better due to the increased explosive yield.

Bomber Hunter: Due to its amazing performance, powerful armament and air defence fighter spawn point, the Hornet can make for a powerful interceptor when played carefully. Climb to bomber altitudes (4,000 metres and up) and begin prowling for a target. When attacking bombers, the worst angle of attack is from the rear, typically most bombers have their heaviest armament here, not to mention bullet impact is harder (especially from .50 calibre machine guns and 20 mm cannons) as the aircraft is flying towards a speeding bullet, increasing the damage it will do and the likelihood of being hit. Notable examples you can encounter at this rank are the B-29A-BN, B-17G-60-VE, PB4Y-2, He 177 A-5, G8N1 and the premium Be-6. Remember, the body of the aircraft can soak up a lot of damage, instead dive from above or climb from below and aim for the wings, without engines or a wing, the bomber will fall like a rock. Attacking from oblique angles makes it difficult for the bomber gunners to acquire a target solution and causes them to traverse and fire which spreads out their bullet patterns making it more difficult to hit a speeding target.
Your intended role of the Hornet decides which upgrades you go for first. When going for a ground attacker, focus the payload modules and cannon upgrades, with survivability modules coming next due to needing to lower the extra weight the payloads add.

When going for any other role, the belts and cannons should come first, followed by the performance upgrades, ultimately leading to Engine Injection, the Holy Grail of performance upgrades.

Pros:

* Excellent armament, the Hispano Mk. V has a high rate of fire and causes a lot of fragmentation damage
* Extremely quick, can compete with some of the best single-engined fighters
* Has excellent payload options, several varieties of rockets and up to 2,000 lb in bombs
* Good amount of ammo for the cannons
* Quite manoeuvrable for a twin-engined fighter, as to be expected of the descendant of the Mosquito
* Fantastic climb rate, especially when spaded
* Thin body for a twin-engined fighter
* Experience with the Mosquito transitions between the planes
* Lenient stock grind

Cons:

* Not great at killing heavy bombers like the He 177, susceptible to engine damage or a knocked out pilot
* Matchmaking will pit you against some serious foes
* Despite the durable construction, the Hornet is made out of wood, meaning you cannot take much damage and remain in the fight
* Fires deal serious damage to a wooden plane
* Wings are littered with fuel tanks
* Despite the thin body, it is still a large target
* Carrying the max payload has a significant effect on flight performance
The de Havilland first started out as a private venture by the de Havilland company. Having built the extremely successful Mosquito multi-role fighter, the company wants to improve on the design to make a faster and longer ranged heavy fighter. The project was soon developed to meet the Air Ministry specification F.12/43, which called for a fast, long-range fighter that operated in the Far East, in fact, the design was drawn around the Hornet. The first prototype was a more streamlined, smaller Mosquito with more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. The wings were designed for adaptation for naval uses and could fold. Pilot comfort and stability had a very high priority. According to accounts by test pilots, the Hornet is easily capable of taking on single engine fighters. It entered Squadron service in mid-1946. However, it was rarely used as World War Two was drawing to a close. Instead, the plane saw combat operations during the Malayan Emergency and continued to serve the RAF until 1956.
